Job description

SALARY

$54.58

POSITION SUMMARY

Performs a variety of supportive sheet metal duties relative to bus and rail car interior and exterior repair, rebuild, and replacement using a range of sheet metal including but not limited to: stainless steel, common steel, galvanized steel, aluminum, cooper, brass, etc.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

             Receives verbal or printed orders as to work that is to be done based on priority and need of the bus or rail car fleet.

             Lays out and develops a variety of sheet metal fixtures from blue prints, drawings, sketches, or samples as they relate to the maintenance of the bus or rail car fleet.

             Cuts, punches, and debars a variety of sheet metal fixtures according to specified dimensions as they relate to the maintenance of the bus or rail car fleet.

             Forms, bends, and rolls a variety of sheet metal fixtures according to specified dimensions as they relate to the maintenance of the bus or rail car fleet.

             Sets up, adjusts, and operates large powered machinery such as power brakes, power shears, power rollers or power punches to facilitate the production of specified jobs.

             Performs bench site repairs to pre-existing bus and rail car sheet metal constructed components as needed.

             Performs sheet metal work on bus/rail car components manufactured on site including: battery box trays, junction boxes and covers, exterior and interior bus/rail car skins, fuseable link plates, gasoline tanks, cable support brackets, etc.

             Performs various sheet metal tasks on a variety of other components manufactured on site including: tool trays, storage boxes, lids, shelving, gutters, down spouts, ducts, machine guards, oil pans, cabinets, etc.

             Performs related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

             Must have a minimum of five year's verifiable experience working as a journeyman sheet metal worker or have completed the Authority's Sheet Metal Apprentice Program.

             Must submit and pass drug and alcohol testing as mandated by the Federal Transportation Administration.

             Must pass a physical examination

             Must pass applicable tests which may include: skill at tinning soldering, torch work and making fixtures such as cones, pyramids, cylinders, boots, oval pipes, three or four way branches, square to rounds, elbows, etc.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

             Required to be able to perform duties that involve various positions such as: standing, walking, sitting, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, reaching, handling, climbing, stooping, etc.

             Required to lift, carry and maneuver material weighting up to 100 pounds.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

             Must possess a wording knowledge of arithmetic operations including fractions, decimals, and descriptive geometry.

             Must read and interpret blue prints and drawings.

             Must be skilled in the use of powered and non-powered hand tools.

             Must be skilled in the operation of large powered machinery such as: power shears, brakes, punches and rollers.

             Must supply own non-powered hand tools.

WORKING CONDITIONS

             Required to work in a repair/maintenance shop environment, subject to noise and vibration, mechanical and electrical hazards, chemicals, dust and gases.

             Powered and non-powered hand tools,  large powered machinery, power shears, punches, rollers, power brakes.
