Job description

The SHE Training Specialist manages the comprehensive Safety, Health and Environment (SHE) training portfolio across AstraZeneca COO sites, with approximately 60% focus on Gaithersburg and 40% on the remaining sites. This role ensures compliant, role-based curricula with timely refresher cycles while aligning with regulatory and corporate requirements. The specialist serves as the technical owner of the Learning Management System (LMS) for SHE, leads onboarding programs, develops training content, governs vendor contracts and relations, and drives continuous imrpovement through data analytics, stakeholder engagement, and innovative learning technologies including AI-enabled solutions.

Responsibilities Manages the comprehensive SHE learning strategy and portfolio management, orchestrating compliant, role-based curricula with optimized refresher cycles. Drives alignment with regulatory standards and corporate requirements across COO sites. Serves as the technical lead and process owner for the SHE Learning Management System (LMS), including configuration, assignments, automation, data integrity, reporting/analytics, audit readiness, and system enhancements.

Provides technical troubleshooting and user support to learners and administrators experiencing course access, completion, or system-related issues. Evaluates, implements, and governs AI technologies to enhance training creation, customer experience, and automation. Observes and adheres to AI governance for transparent and accurate information delivery.

Maintains current knowledge of learning science, instructional design methodologies, and emerging learning technology trends to embed best practices into SHE operations. Designs, supports development, and maintains comprehensive SHE learning content including web-based training (WBT), instructor-led training (ILT/VILT), on the job training (OJT), job aids, and SOP-linked modules (Read & Sign). Partners with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to ensure technical accuracy, accessibility, and engaging learner experiences.

Develops and maintains comprehensive dashboards and reports on training completion rates, compliance/overdue training, assessment outcomes, and training effectiveness. Prepares evidence for inspections and audits and leads CAPA-related training actions and effectiveness assessments. Builds strategic partnerships across Site Operations, HR, SHE, and external providers.

Represents SHE training needs and best practices in cross-functional forums and networks. Supports the Training and Technology manager in other SHE technology functions, such as ServiceNow administration, AI tool development and enhancement, AZ SHE System, compliance and CAPA-related dashboard management, document management, and site communications. Champions continuous improvement based on feedback and performance metrics.

Manages the SHE training calendar and logistics for instructor-led and virtual sessions, including scheduling personnel and facilities, coordinating instructors and materials, ensuring timely communications, and maintaining attendance tracking systems. Serves as the primary point of contact for SHE training needs, gathering requirements from leaders and SMEs, prioritizing requests, and delivering high-quality, timely, and cost-effective learning solutions. Plans and manages training-related projects from concept through implementation, including curriculum overhauls, AI pilots, and compliance remediation initiatives, or provides expert training support to cross-functional project leads.

Oversees external training vendors to maintain appropriate contracts with Service Level Agreements (SLAs) and Purchase Orders (POs) aligned with AstraZeneca sustainability requirements. Builds strategic partnerships across Site Operations, HR, SHE, and external providers. Represents SHE training needs and best practices in cross-functional forums and networks.

Evaluates, implements, and governs AI technologies to enhance training creation, customer experience, and automation. Required Skills & Abilities Bachelor's degree in Instructional Design, Learning & Development, Safety/Environmental Sciences, or related field 0-2 years of GxP, OSHA/EHS, and audit/inspection expectations; experience preparing evidence and leading CAPA training actions. Strong project management, prioritization, and stakeholder engagement; ability to translate requirements into practical, measurable training solutions. Excellent written and verbal communication; ability to create clear training materials, job aids, and executive-ready dashboards/reports.

Desired Skills & Abilities Advanced degree or relevant certifications Proficiency with LMS platforms (e.g., SuccessFactors, Cornerstone, SumTotal), content authoring tools (e.g., Articulate 360, Camtasia, Captivate), data/BI tools (Power BI, Tableau), and familiarity with AI-enabled learning solutions. 1+ years in L&D or SHE training within regulated environments (pharma, biotech, manufacturing, healthcare, or similar), including LMS ownership and curriculum management. Mastery of adult learning principles, instructional design, and facilitation; experience developing eLearning, ILT/VILT, and SOP-linked modules

The annual base pay for this position ranges from $73,710- $110,566 USD Annual. Hourly and salaried non-exempt employees will also be paid overtime pay when working qualifying overtime hours. Base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.

In addition, our positions offer a short-term incentive bonus opportunity; eligibility to participate in our equity-based long-term incentive program (salaried roles), to receive a retirement contribution (hourly roles), and commission payment eligibility (sales roles).
