Painter Helper - Career Opportunity - San Diego, CA
Job Description
- This role involves supporting skilled painters in preparing wood or metal surfaces for painting by removing contaminants such as dirt, grease, rust, and scale. You will assist in masking and taping areas not requiring paint and help in painting parts, equipment, and structural surfaces inside and outside ships and shipyard buildings. Additionally, you will mix materials according to Product Data Sheets and perform touch-up work as needed.
Responsibilities
- Clean and prepare wood or metal surfaces for painting, ensuring removal of dirt, grease, rust, scale, and other contaminants.
- Mask and tape areas not requiring paint.
- Paint parts, equipment, and structural surfaces on the interior and exterior of ships and shipyard buildings.
- Mix materials in accordance with Product Data Sheets.
- Inspect prepped and painted areas and perform touch-up work as needed.
- Set up and operate spray equipment, including pneumatic or conventional, airless pumps, HVLP spray guns, and five-gallon conventional spray pots, for non-skid application.
- Dismantle various types of scaffolding.
- Clean tanks and perform general shipyard cleanup.
- Inspect and sort scaffolding materials.
- Operate high reach equipment and power tools.
- Move furniture and other equipment as needed.
- Assist with all Painter, Blaster, Carpentry, and Waysman tasks.
Essential Skills
- Experience in painting and paint preparation.
- Proficiency with hand tools and power tools such as saws, drills, and chainsaws.
- Ability to operate paint equipment and chipping equipment.
- Knowledge of masking and general labor in a shipyard environment.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Previous shipyard experience is preferred.
- Knowledge of basic painting applications.
- Must provide own tools.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of San Diego, CA.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $18.00 - $20.00/hr.
