What is a service contract?

A service contract is a formal agreement between a service provider and a client that outlines the terms and conditions for the delivery of specific services over a set period. It typically details the scope of work, payment terms, duration, responsibilities, and any warranties or guarantees. Service contracts help protect both parties by clearly defining expectations and procedures for handling disputes or changes to the agreement.

To thrive as a Service Contract Manager, you need strong contract negotiation, analytical, and organizational skills, typically supported by a background in business administration, law, or a related field. Familiarity with contract management software, CRM systems, and relevant certifications like Certified Professional Contracts Manager (CPCM) are commonly required. Excellent communication, attention to detail, and problem-solving abilities are standout soft skills for managing client relationships and resolving disputes.
