Product Manager – Personal Auto Insurance (Pricing)

American Freedom Insurance Company (AFIC) is a leader in the nonstandard automobile insurance industry. We are a consistently expanding midsized, highly profitable company doing business in Illinois, Indiana, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas and licensed in Ohio. Product Managers at AFIC have direct ownership of state performance and work closely with senior leadership to drive pricing, product strategy, and market expansion initiatives. AFIC is a financially strong "A+" (Superior) AM Best and Better Business Bureau rated non-standard automobile insurer.


As a member of our Product Management team, you will be responsible for driving the profitability, growth, and overall performance of our Personal Auto insurance programs. You will collaborate across the organization to develop innovative products, optimize pricing strategies, ensure regulatory compliance, and identify opportunities for continued business growth.


Responsibilities include:

  • Develop and execute pricing, product, and regulatory strategies that drive profitable growth and enhance the performance of Personal Auto state programs.
  • Analyze pricing, technology, and key business metrics—including loss ratios, premium growth, producer performance, and profitability—to identify trends and implement data-driven improvements.
  • Collaborate with Marketing, Underwriting, Claims, IT, Legal, and external partners to design, price, launch, and support new products, product enhancements, and operational initiatives.
  • Utilize AI-powered tools, analytics, and emerging technologies to improve business insights, operational efficiency, and product performance.
  • Ensure product strategies align with corporate objectives, regulatory requirements, market conditions, and profitability goals.
  • Conduct competitive, market, and industry research while incorporating agent feedback to identify pricing opportunities, coverage enhancements, and emerging customer needs.
  • Build and maintain appropriate relationships with state insurance departments, managing regulatory communications, filings, and inquiries with professionalism and responsiveness.
  • Lead strategic initiatives that strengthen product development, improve operational effectiveness, and contribute to overall business performance.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on state insurance regulations, ensuring compliance and providing timely responses to regulatory requests.
  • Support audits, regulatory reviews, and market conduct examinations while evaluating industry findings to proactively identify and mitigate compliance risks.
  • Evaluate and develop new market opportunities, that may include small commercial auto, rideshare, state expansion and other emerging insurance solutions.
  • Oversee the development, submission, approval, and implementation of rate, rule, and form filings through SERFF.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Economics or related field required, MBA a plus
  • Minimum 3–5 years of Product Management, pricing, actuarial analysis or related experience, preferably with a focus on automobile insurance
  • Strong analytical, quantitative, and problem-solving skills with attention to detail
  • Strong knowledge of data analysis and visualization tools such as Power BI, Tableau, SQL or other analytical tools
  • Working knowledge of insurance rate filings and rules
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills across technical and non-technical teams
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite; experience with product management tools or regulatory filing systems (e.g., SERFF) is a plus
