Job description

Position: Maintenance
Saint Stephen of Hungary of Skidway Lake
Employment type: Part-time
Location: Prescott, MI
General Description: Maintain all equipment/systems/buildings and keep in good working order (includes light bulbs); maintain lawn/trees/shrubs, parking lot, sidewalk/driveways, and fence. If unable to fix something/professional services are needed or need supplies, inform the office. We have three buildings and a maintenance garage that need to be maintained. This position is ideal for a retired (or other) person who wants to keep active and does not need a consistent number of work hours.

NOTE: This is a part-time position (under 18 hours per week) with mostly flexible hours, requiring more hours in the summer/fall and far fewer in the winter/spring.
REQUIREMENTS:
  • Reliable and flexible.
  • Able to follow through—or communicate when something prevents follow-through.
  • Able to deal with shifting priorities and adjust accordingly.
  • Willing to take direction, work with others, and able to recognize independently what needs doing.
  • Must have the self-direction to perform regular checks of the interior/exterior of the spaces.
  • Willing and able to initiate and reply to communications in a timely manner.
  • Willing and able to complete and submit time sheets as required.
  • Able to climb ladders and crouch in smaller spaces.
  • Able to use or willing to learn to use general maintenance tools and equipment.
  • Some experience with HVAC and electricity helpful but not required.
  • Experience with wells, septic fields, sump pumps and water softeners helpful but not required.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
  • The list below represents the usual work; but additional items/projects might be requested as needs arise.
  • Maintain logs for equipment.
  • Maintenance of Lawn: Mow lawn and ditches, weed whack, rake, trim trees and bushes, use blower to clear grass from sidewalks and parking area. Remove any debris on church grounds.
  • Maintenance of Sidewalks and Hall: In conversation with office during winter, shovel snow from sidewalks and around building exits amp; salt if needed, notating logs. Does NOT include plowing the parking lot.
  • Maintenance of Mowers: Monitor blades and sharpen if needed or notify office to replace, scrape under mower deck to prevent grass build-up, grease, change oil, filters, belts.
  • Monitor parking lot for weeds: Remove/spray as needed.
  • Repair church fence that borders Mills Township Park if needed.**
  • Notify office when gas and supplies are needed.
  • Keep Church Garage in order and clean as needed.
  • Monitor AED, GFI, Exit lights: replace burned-out bulbs or batteries; note in logs.
  • When asked, assist with moving chairs/tables in/to the hall, set up for yearly rummage sale, funerals, etc. Might also be asked to help move rummage sale items from the rectory basement to the hall.
  • Fill salt in water softeners and monitor filters; update logs.
  • Complete repair work as needed.
  • Place Nativity set in front of church at Christmas and place back in garage after Christmas Season (January). Help move items used in Liturgical Environment.
  • Replace furnace filters yearly for church and as needed for hall and gathering space.
  • Check doors amp; tighten hinges/locks as needed; tighten kneeler screws and replace brackets as needed.
  • Assist with other projects as they arise.

**Some fencing on the back line is maintained by the Township. Split-rail fencing is the church’s; rounded-boards fencing is the Township’s. Some split-rail fencing has been removed.
