OVERALL DESCRIPTION
We are seeking a skilled candidate for the position Fire Equipment Repairer Specialist. This person will be responsible for installs, repairs, maintenance and testing all firefighting equipment, systems, and apparatuses. They will inspect equipment and related systems and evaluate potential fire hazard.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Install, repair, maintain, and test all fire protection equipment and systems, including sprinkler piping, fire extinguishers and accessories, fire pumps and controls, alarms, valves, strainers, tanks, hoses, cabinets, hydrants, standpipes, fire doors, and related signage throughout the property.
  2. Conduct monthly and annual inspections of all fire protection equipment and systems; document results, maintain compliance records, sign inspection tags, and submit reports as a certified representative.
  3. Assess facilities for potential fire hazards; determine hazard classifications and ensure appropriate fire protection systems are installed in compliance with NFPA codes and standards.
  4. Operate specialized equipment and tools such as pipe threading and grooving machines, forklifts, high-reach equipment, and company vehicles; utilize demolition tools, power tools, gauges, testing instruments, hydrant tools, and other equipment related to fire suppression systems.
  5. Maintain a safe and organized work environment by cleaning and clearing job sites; transport materials, tools, ladders, and supplies; and assemble scaffolding as required.
  6. Provide direction and oversight to employees in lower or related classifications performing fire protection work.
  7. Prepare daily work reports, maintain accurate records, and develop material, equipment, and supply lists; create sketches and layouts to support project execution.
  8. Cut, thread, bend, install, and replace piping systems; perform rigging, excavation, and backfilling as needed.
  9. Perform additional duties as required to support departmental objectives.
  10. Adhere to all organizational and departmental safety and security policies and procedures. Promptly report any safety concerns, hazards, or risks affecting operations, personnel, or the public. Maintain accountability for personal safety and actively promote a safe work environment for others.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Successful completion of a minimum two year course in plumbing from an accredited technical school. Proof of successful completion of other training may be submitted, however the hiring department will make the final determination whether the training is appropriate and equivalent.
  • Must possess a valid Philadelphia fire suppression workers certificate for sprinkler and standpipe systems, special hazard systems and portable fire extinguishers.
  • Must possess a good working knowledge of the Philadelphia and national fire prevention codes..
  • Must successfully complete all preliminary written and performance tests.
  • Must possess a valid drivers license.
