Job description

Field Technician Essential Job Duties

  • Maintain Fare Vending Devices, Rotary Gates, OBPs & various equipment on an as needed to include.
  • Detect & Resolve Component wear & tear.
  • Provide quick response to Work Orders sent via Work Order Management System.
  • Troubleshoot & Resolve Machine Hardware electrical, electronic, communication, & functionality related issues for resolution and maximum uptime on new & existing systems.
  • Interface with Various IT departments to resolve software issues detected internally or externally to FVDs/HSDs/OBPs.
  • Keep inventory of replacement parts, tools & cleaning supplies within a company assigned Vehicle or Local storage location.
  • Communicate regularly with Manager or Customer to resolve Work Order Issues and/or report new issues.
  • Uses standard hand tools and technical manuals.
  • May be floating or stationary.

General Requirements:

  • Flexible schedule
  • Ability to work nights, Weekends &/or Holidays.

Education & Experience:

  • High School Diploma
  • Electronics experience required
  • Equivalent work experience in the Field of Computer Science and electronics.

Work Schedule: Mon-Fri 8:00am-4:30pm

Position Overview

A fully qualified Field Technician applies working knowledge of computer science and electronics to maintain SEPTA's mission-critical fare collection infrastructure, working independently on light to moderately complex work orders with normal to critical deadlines.

Essential Job Duties

  • Maintain Fare Vending Devices, Rotary Gates, OBPs, and 3D fare gate systems
  • Perform PC-level board repairs and component-level troubleshooting
  • Provide rapid response to Work Orders via Work Order Management System
  • Troubleshoot hardware, electrical, electronic, communication, and functionality issues for maximum uptime
  • Interface with IT departments to resolve software issues on FVDs/HSDs/OBPs
  • Maintain inventory of replacement parts, tools, and cleaning supplies
  • Document activities and maintain service records using Excel spreadsheets
  • Communicate regularly with Manager and Customer to resolve issues
  • Use standard hand tools and technical manuals
  • May be floating or stationary assignments
  • Installation of Electronic devices into varies types of equipment
  • Navigating the SEPTA Regional Rail and Transit lines providing remediation to Conduent Equipment.
  • Assess new problems and troubleshoot newly installed equipment

Essential Qualifications

Physical Requirements:

  • Must repair electronic boards down to PC component level
  • Must climb ladders frequently and safely for equipment access
  • Must lift and carry at least 45 pounds independently

Education & Experience:

  • High School Diploma required
  • Electronics experience required
  • Basic understanding of electrical components
  • Computer repair experience required
  • Microsoft excel experience required
  • Microsoft Office experience required
  • CompTIA A+ certification is a plus
  • Military or technical training or equivalent work experience in computer science and electronics is a plus but not a must
  • Able to understand new equipment with basic training.
