Job description

The Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA) is the sixth largest transportation system in the United States, with a vast network of fixed route services including bus, subway/elevated, trackless trolley, light rail, and commuter rail serving a 2,200 square mile service region.
We are seeking candidates for the position of RR Carpenter/Locksmith-Specialist (1120) in the Maintenance/Bridges & Buildings.
SEPTA currently requires all new employees to be fully vaccinated and provide proof of vaccination at their pre-employment medical appointment.
OVERALL DESCRIPTION
As an experienced carpenter/locksmith, constructs, erects, installs, or repairs structures and fixtures made of wood, such as concrete forms, building frameworks, including partitions, joists, studding, and rafters, and wood stairways, window and door frames, fencing and hardwood floors using carpenter's hand tools and power tools. Performs other building trade roles including painting, welding, and assisting with assisting with concrete work.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Performs carpentry work such as lay out and repair of inside and outside building framing and partitions. Installs trim and millwork, doors, windows, counters, cabinetry, etc.
  2. Constructs stations platforms, shoring, heavy timber framing, and concrete forms.
  3. Operates various power wood working tools such as combination, saws, planer, etc.
  4. Works from ladders, scaffolds and other structures.
  5. Installs, repairs, replaces various door sets; installs and sets up key ways, locks for master keys, etc.

ADDITIONAL SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Must have experience as a carpenter in general building or industrial construction and roofing
  • Must have experience as a locksmith or have successfully completed a course in locksmithing (certification or diploma must be provided)
  • Must satisfactorily completed pre-employment and performance tests as required
