The Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA) is the sixth largest transportation system in the United States, with a vast network of fixed route services including bus, subway/elevated, trackless trolley, light rail, and commuter rail serving a 2,200 square mile service region.
SEPTA has become an integral force in the economic success of the Philadelphia region, providing an efficient and reliable source of transportation.
We are seeking candidates for the position of Collection Equip. Maintainer - Trainee, DL (1303) in the Revenue, Ridership, Advertising & Sales.
The starting rate of pay for this position is $37.11/hour. After successful completion of the training program and one year of service, the rate of pay will increase to $41.23/hour.
OVERALL DESCRIPTION
The Farebox Maintenance Technician Trainee supports the upkeep and reliability of fare collection equipment by assisting with preventative maintenance and basic diagnostics under direct supervision. This role is designed to develop technical skills through hands-on training in electronic, electrical, pneumatic, and mechanical systems related to farebox equipment.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
  • The trainee will learn to perform routine maintenance, use diagnostic tools, interpret schematics, and follow maintenance manuals to ensure equipment operates efficiently and reliably.
  • This position plays a key role in supporting transit operations by helping minimize equipment downtime and maintaining system performance.
  • The role requires flexibility to work second shifts, weekends, and other assigned schedules as needed.
  • The technician is also responsible for adhering to all safety, security, and operational policies, promptly reporting any hazards or concerns, and contributing to a safe working environment for employees and the public.

ADDITIONAL SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
  • Must possess high school diploma or equivalent. Also, must possess a technical associate's degree in electronics.
  • In lieu of technical school degree, must have two (2) years of experience in the diagnosis and repair of microprocessor based equipment. (Military education equivalent demonstrating proficiency in electromechanical knowledge may be acceptable).
  • Must satisfactorily complete pre-employment tests as follows: basic electronics, hand tools, basic math.
  • Will be required to demonstrate technical knowledge of electronics. Must have ability to work from drawings.
  • Must have valid driver's license.
