Job description

Basic Function

Wolters Kluwer Tax & Accounting seeks a strategic, customer-focused Senior Product Manager to define and deliver outcomes across the tax product lifecycle. This role acts as a Product Definer and Tax Subject Matter Expert (SME), responsible for translating customer, practitioner, and market signals into clear problem definitions, product strategies, and measurable business outcomes.

This role combines deep tax domain expertise with modern product management practices to ensure products align with how tax professionals actually work. The Senior Product Manager owns a product domain, capability area, or customer journey and is accountable for defining practitioner-centric solutions, validating customer value, influencing product strategy, and driving commercial success.

The ideal candidate brings firsthand tax preparation, review, or firm workflow experience, strong product judgment, and the ability to leverage AI and agentic tools as force multipliers across the product development lifecycle. This individual must be able to distinguish between technology novelty and meaningful practitioner value, ensuring solutions are grounded in real-world tax workflows, customer expectations, and trusted outcomes.

Essential Duties and responsibilities

Strategic Direction & Product Definition

  • Synthesize customer feedback, practitioner insights, product usage data, competitive intelligence, market research, and business objectives into clear problem statements and product opportunities.
  • Define product vision, objectives, key results (OKRs), success metrics, and measurable customer and business outcomes.
  • Develop high-quality product requirements, user stories, acceptance criteria, and supporting documentation that are traceable to desired outcomes.
  • Evaluate opportunities using customer value, practitioner impact, business outcomes, strategic alignment, and effort-based prioritization frameworks.
  • Define and maintain a customer-centered product roadmap aligned to business goals and market needs.
  • Partner with leadership to identify and prioritize growth opportunities, customer segments, practitioner workflows, and high-value use cases.
  • Translate complex tax workflows and practitioner needs into clear, actionable product requirements.
  • Balance short-term delivery objectives with long-term strategic investments.

Go-to-Market & Commercial Execution

  • Partner with Product Marketing, Sales, Customer Success, and other stakeholders to support successful product launches and commercialization efforts.
  • Contribute to product positioning, messaging, pricing, packaging, and customer value articulation.
  • Provide practitioner-informed perspectives on customer pain points, workflow improvements, adoption barriers, and product differentiation.
  • Collaborate on market readiness activities, launch planning, customer communications, and adoption strategies.
  • Support alpha and beta programs, collecting and synthesizing customer feedback into product decisions.
  • Help develop sales enablement materials, demonstrations, training content, customer narratives, and workflow-based use cases.
  • Participate in customer engagements, advisory councils, and industry events where practitioner credibility and tax expertise are important.
  • Partner with customer-facing teams to identify adoption barriers, workflow gaps, and expansion opportunities.

Customer Discovery, Design & Testing

  • Lead customer discovery efforts, voice-of-customer research, practitioner interviews, surveys, workflow analysis, and design partner engagements.
  • Define and document practitioner workflows, including tax preparation, review, K-1 processing, exception handling, data validation, and return delivery processes.
  • Translate customer problems into user journeys, design principles, solution hypotheses, and acceptance criteria.
  • Partner with UX to develop and test prototypes, concepts, MVPs, and product enhancements.
  • Validate assumptions through structured experimentation, qualitative research, and quantitative analysis.
  • Identify workflow bottlenecks, review points, exception scenarios, and opportunities for automation and efficiency.
  • Continuously gather evidence to refine product direction and improve product-market fit.
  • Work directly with customers, prospects, and design partners to understand workflows, decision-making processes, and unmet needs.
  • Validate solutions against realistic practitioner scenarios, firm operating models, and customer expectations.

AI & Agentic Workflow Orchestration

  • Leverage AI and agentic tools to accelerate customer research, workflow analysis, competitive research, experimentation, and product discovery activities.
  • Apply AI capabilities to improve product experiences and customer outcomes where meaningful practitioner value exists.
  • Evaluate AI outputs against practitioner expectations, workflow requirements, and customer trust standards.
  • Help define success criteria for accuracy, completeness, explainability, workflow fit, consistency, and adoption readiness.
  • Identify scenarios requiring human review, escalation, exception handling, or workflow controls.
  • Utilize AI to support product planning, research synthesis, market analysis, and content generation activities.
  • Establish appropriate human-in-the-loop validation checkpoints for AI-generated outputs and recommendations.
  • Evaluate emerging AI technologies, trends, and opportunities that can create customer and business value.
  • Ensure responsible, transparent, and practical use of AI throughout the product development lifecycle.

Data-Driven Product Ownership

  • Define, monitor, and act upon product success metrics including adoption, retention, engagement, customer satisfaction, revenue, and growth indicators.
  • Analyze customer behavior, workflow completion patterns, product performance, and operational data to identify opportunities and inform roadmap decisions.
  • Translate insights into actionable product improvements, prioritization decisions, and commercialization strategies.
  • Measure product outcomes against established OKRs and communicate progress to stakeholders.
  • Establish clear success criteria for initiatives and ensure accountability for measurable outcomes.
  • Use practitioner and customer feedback to validate roadmap priorities and product investments.

Stakeholder & Delivery Leadership

  • Collaborate effectively across Product, Engineering, UX, Sales, Marketing, Customer Success, Support, Compliance, and leadership teams.
  • Manage and prioritize backlogs, epics, initiatives, and roadmap investments aligned to strategic goals.
  • Advocate for practitioner needs and customer outcomes throughout the product development lifecycle.
  • Identify risks, dependencies, workflow considerations, and constraints and proactively drive resolution.
  • Facilitate alignment on priorities, trade-offs, timelines, and customer outcomes.
  • Influence stakeholders through strong communication, customer insight, practitioner expertise, and data-driven decision making.
