Senior Platform Windows Engineer

Verition Group LLC

New York, NY

Full-time

Job description

Firm Overview

Verition Fund Management LLC ("Verition") is a multi-strategy, multi-manager hedge fund founded in 2008.  Verition focuses on global investment strategies including Global Credit, Global Convertible, Volatility & Capital Structure Arbitrage, Event-Driven Investing, Equity Long/Short & Capital Markets Trading, and Global Quantitative Trading.

Role Overview

Our software engineers tackle some of the most challenging problems in finance. We design the core platforms and infrastructure, build sophisticated risk management tools, and scale distributed systems that analyze exceptional volumes of data in real time. Everything we build is in service of sharpening the firm's trading edge. We focus on high-impact problems aligned to commercial goals, so the work is both technically engaging and personally rewarding. Our engineers are versatile, lead from where they sit, and take on new problems across the stack as we push to be the very best at what we do.

The Platform and Infrastructure group engineers and operates the foundational systems that power every application and business at Verition. Our disciplines span datacenter infrastructure to large-scale cloud services, with a shared goal: providing the most reliable, performant, and modern technology stack possible to accelerate time-to-market for the businesses we support. We work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment where challenging the status quo of our infrastructure is the expectation, not the exception.

Responsibilities

Windows Engineering owns the server-side Windows platform at Verition - the counterpart to our Linux platform, engineered to the same standard. This is not a desktop or end-user support role; it is core infrastructure work on the Windows Server fleet, Active Directory and identity, and the automation that keeps both reliable, secure, and fast across our data centers and cloud regions. As a Senior Platform Engineer, you'll own significant pieces of that surface hands-on, work closely with the Tech Lead for Linux Platform Engineering to shape one coherent OS-platform strategy across both kernels, and partner with engineering and quant research teams who depend on Windows for parts of their stack.

  • Engineer, automate, and operate the firm's Windows Server fleet across private data centers and cloud regions, holding it to the same reliability, performance, and security standards as our Linux platform.
  • Own the design and operation of Active Directory and hybrid identity (Entra ID), including domain and forest architecture, Group Policy, trusts, and the integrations that connect Windows identity to the rest of the firm's systems.
  • Build and maintain deployment, configuration, patching, and monitoring automation using PowerShell and modern configuration management, treating the Windows estate as code rather than as hand-managed servers.
  • Define and enforce Windows security baselines and hardening standards, partnering with Security Engineering on patching cadence, privileged access, and the firm's broader identity and short-lived-credential strategy.
  • Tune Windows Server for demanding, latency-sensitive workloads where the business requires it, working from the hardware and kernel up.
  • Contribute to the OS-platform technical strategy set by the Tech Lead, Linux Platform Engineering, bringing deep Windows expertise so that decisions span both platforms coherently rather than treating Windows as an afterthought.
  • Partner with Data Center & Fleet Infrastructure on provisioning and asset management, and with Developer Tools & Infrastructure on build and CI integration, so the Windows platform is well-integrated with the rest of the stack.
  • Provide production support for the Windows surface, including participation in an on-call rotation, and drive continuous improvement of its reliability and observability.
  • Mentor engineers across the team on Windows internals, identity, and automation, raising the bar for how the firm builds and operates Windows infrastructure.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5 years of experience in systems or platform engineering, with a focus on Windows Server infrastructure.
  • Advanced experience with Windows Server internals, performance tuning, and operating the fleet at scale.
  • Deep, hands-on experience with Active Directory and hybrid identity (Entra ID), including domain/forest design, Group Policy, and trust relationships.
  • Strong experience automating deployment, configuration, patching, and monitoring with PowerShell, including modern configuration-management approaches (e.g., DSC, Ansible, or equivalent).
  • Experience defining and applying Windows security baselines and hardening standards (e.g., CIS Benchmarks, STIGs).
  • Experience with distributed systems and cloud platforms.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • High level of intellectual curiosity, strong work ethic, and a keen attention to detail.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented, fast-paced, and dynamic environment.
