POSITION SUMMARY:

The Wellness Intern positions primary responsibility will be member engagement and improving the overall experience for our members.


This position is comprised of 5-10 hours a week on the fitness floor with the addition of personal training, small group training, group fitness and other ancillary fitness programs.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Warmly and enthusiastically greet members with a smile and eye contact.
  2. Is the first point of contact for Health & Wellness when members walk into the Fitness Center.
  3. Conduct phone calls and tours with prospective members.
  4. On-board new members through our Health & Wellness orientations.
  5. Convert orientation appointments into personal training/wellness coaching packages.
  6. Engage with members in the wellness center area, after group exercise classes have ended, and ensure members are enjoying their overall wellness experience at the Y.
  7. Report equipment in need of repair to supervisor immediately, follow branch repair procedures and post “out of order” sign on equipment.

Personal Trainer/ Group Ex. Essential Functions:

  1. Consult with members on the health and fitness goals and objectives for an exercise program.
  2. Work alongside Wellness Director to design exercise program based on the goals and objectives identified and the member preferences and weaknesses as shown in the fitness assessment results.
  3. Ensure programs must include all aspects of fitness, follow proper exercise progression and comply with the philosophy and goals of the YMCA.
  4. Follow proper paperwork procedures by keeping all paperwork on site such as assessments, workout session cards etc. in an assigned designated area.
  5. Arrive for appointments well-groomed and in proper uniform.
  6. Perform other duties as assigned.


QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Enrolled in a Bachelor's degree program. Majors include: Exercise Physiology, Physical Education, Sports Management, or related field preferred
  2. Knowledge in developing programs for assigned program area is preferred.
  3. Physical ability to instruct session or group training session
  4. Proficient in and able to clearly communicate specific components and usage of cardiovascular, selectorized, free weight, and other common exercise equipment (i.e., rubberized resistance, stability balls, medicine balls, etc.).
  5. Ability to conduct scientifically valid fitness assessments and appropriately interpret the results.



PHYSICAL REQUIREMENT:

  • Must be able to stand for the duration of the shift
  • Must be able to bend and stoop occasionally
  • Must be able to lift 45 pounds occasionally
