What is a senior web developer?

A senior web developer is a highly skilled computer coding professional with fluency in languages such as HTML, JavaScript, and CSS. In this career, your responsibilities include designing, developing, and debugging the backend of software programs for websites, applications, tools, and databases. You also work with JavaScript frameworks, develop tests using testing frameworks, help build and deploy automation scripts, troubleshoot, and resolve app performance issues. As a senior web developer, you may supervise a team of developers and collaborate with user experience designers to determine what the frontend user experience and website layout will look like during the design phase. Other duties may include enforcing coding standards, reviewing the work completed by your team, managing the budget and project schedule, and communicating directly with clients.

Job description

Lumen is the trusted network for the AIpowered world, connecting people, data, and applications through our expansive fiber network and connected ecosystem. We enable secure, highperformance connectivity across cloud, edge, and AI workloads for enterprises, governments, and communities.

At Lumen, you'll work on infrastructure customers rely on today and build for what's next, where performance, security, and resilience matter.

This is a high accountability environment where bold ideas drive real innovation for our customers, partners, and industry. The work is challenging, expectations are clear, and trust is built into how we operate. If you're ready to take ownership, deliver meaningful impact, and help shape the future of AIready connectivity, join us today.

The Role

Lumen connects the world by helping customers bring people, data, and applications together quickly, securely, and effortlessly. We are building a culture and company from the people up, grounded in teamwork, trust, and transparency - because people power progress. In this role, you will help bring that promise to life by making the Lumen Platform tangible, compelling, and actionable for customers.

The Senior Lead Platform Activation Architect will be a key member of Partner/Product, Readiness, Incubation, Storytelling and Motion (PRISM), Lumen's outbound, demo-led platform activation team. PRISM partners across Product, Technology, Sales, and the ecosystem to take Lumen Validated Designs and solutions to market through customer-centric narratives, interactive demos, workshops, webinars, and proof-of-value experiences. This is a building role. You do not hand a concept to someone else to make real - you make it real yourself, using AI-assisted development as your primary path from blank page to working demo.

This role bridges the builder-architect and the storyteller: technical enough to architect and build real, working demos, and compelling enough to make a customer feel the outcome. We are looking for a customer-facing technology evangelist who can understand complex solutions, translate them into business outcomes, and confidently tell a compelling story in front of customers, partners, sellers, and decision makers. The ideal candidate brings hands-on build ability and technical fluency, executive presence, curiosity, and creativity with the ability to think from the customer's point of view and show how Lumen's platform capabilities solve real business problems.

This role is ideal for someone energized by building something new, shaping go-to-market motions, and helping customers see what is possible with Lumen across cloud, networking, security, AI, partner technologies, and validated design experiences.

Location

This is a remote opportunity open to candidates located anywhere in the U.S.

The Main Responsibilities
  • Translate Lumen Validated Designs (LVD) into customer-centric activation experiences, including narratives, demos, workshops, webinars, proof-of-value engagements, and field-ready enablement assets.
  • Build and deliver compelling customer stories that lead with business outcomes, buyer personas, and real-world use cases - not just technical features or product capabilities.
  • Design, build, and present interactive demos that make the Lumen Platform tangible for customers and clearly show how solutions work across the full end-to-end architecture.
  • Bring strong stage presence to customer sessions, seller enablement moments, webinars, workshops, and partner-led engagements; confidently facilitate conversations with both technical and business audiences.
  • Partner across Product, Technology, Engineering, Marketing, Sales, and ecosystem partners to shape activation strategies, gather field signals, and refine solution narratives based on customer feedback.
  • Help incubate new product-led and partner-led go-to-market motions before they scale, then develop repeatable frameworks, assets, and enablement that allow the field and partner teams to carry the motion forward.
  • Apply the LVD and Demo Center of Excellence framework to ensure demos and activation experiences are validated, interactive, outcome-oriented, and aligned to the customer's sales moment, decision points, and required level of technical depth.
  • Use modern AI and productivity tools, such as Claude, Copilot, Gemini, or similar platforms, to support storytelling, rapid prototyping, demo creation, research, and scalable enablement. Use AI-assisted development and modern web tooling to get from concept to a working, testable demo in days rather than weeks.
  • Continuously improve activation assets, customer narratives, demo flows, adoption guides, and workshop materials based on customer engagements, seller feedback, and evolving platform capabilities.
What We Look For in a Candidate
  • 8+ years in customer-facing technical or commercial roles such as solution activation, sales engineering, technical pre-sales, technical marketing engineering, developer advocacy, or solutions marketing. Equivalent experience as a hands-on builder in a customer-facing context counts. We care more about what you have built and presented than about the title you built it under.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Proven ability to present to customers, facilitate high-impact conversations, and tell a clear, compelling story that connects technical capabilities to business outcomes.
  • Strong technical fluency with the ability to understand complex platforms, architectures, integrations, and product capabilities and translate them into simple, customer-relevant messaging.
  • Experience personally building, delivering, or contributing to demos, workshops, proof-of-value engagements, webinars, customer briefings, enablement programs, or go-to-market motions at scale.
  • Demonstrated strength in customer empathy, discovery, storytelling, messaging, and outcome-based solution positioning.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally across product, engineering, sales, marketing, partner, and field teams with a high degree of ownership, independence, and collaboration.
  • Experience in cloud, product, software, networking, telecom, cybersecurity, AI, partner ecosystems, or large-scale technology environments preferred; telecom and networking experience are a plus, but broad technology/product orientation and customer-facing evangelism are highly valued.
  • Familiarity with AI tools such as Claude, Copilot, Gemini, or similar platforms preferred.
  • You build with AI, not just about it. You use agentic coding and AI design tooling to go from a blank page to a working, interactive demo in days rather than weeks - prompting, iterating, reading the output well enough to know when it is wrong, and validating it against the real product. You are fluent enough in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript to direct and correct what the tools produce.
  • Comfort with hands-on demo creation, rapid prototyping, light coding, front-end concepts, APIs, web technologies, or interactive experience design is preferred; this role does not require deep production engineering ownership but does require enough technical capability to make demos credible and effective.
  • Demonstrated alignment with Lumen's culture of clarity, courage, customer obsession, growth mindset, respect, teamwork, transparency, trust, and ownership
