As the U.S. businesses of Philip Morris International, we are investing in new products, science, and capabilities to provide the approximately 25 million legal age adults who still smoke with better alternatives.
Our approach is rooted in innovation, responsible marketing, and a growing U.S. footprint that spans manufacturing, technology, and commercial operations across the country.
That creates real opportunity. You'll have the space to take ownership, develop new ideas, and contribute to work that is shaping our business and the category. We're looking for people who are curious, collaborative, and motivated by progress-because the scale of what we're building creates room to grow in different directions.
Our U.S. headquarters in Stamford, Connecticut, is at the center of it all-just steps from the Metro-North station with direct access to New York City, and connected to a national network of teams driving impact across the country.
About the Role
We are seeking a Manager Tech Lead Web US to provide technical leadership across the PMI US Direct digital ecosystem, with primary responsibility for Front-End, Digital Experience, and Commerce delivery. The role will work closely with Product Owners, Delivery Managers, Engineers, and Solution Architects to transform architectural vision into robust, scalable, secure, and high-performing solutions.
The Tech Lead will serve as the technical authority for engineering teams, owning solution implementation, engineering standards, code quality, technical delivery, and operational excellence. Working in partnership with the Principal Solution Architect, this role ensures that architectural designs are translated into production-ready solutions while maintaining technical consistency, scalability, reliability, and business value delivery.
The ideal candidate combines deep hands-on technical expertise with strong leadership capabilities, enabling teams to deliver complex digital experiences
Your 'day to day':
    • Partner with Product Owners, Delivery Managers, and Solution Architects to translate business objectives and architectural direction into actionable technical solutions.
    • Lead technical implementation and design activities across Front-End, Digital Experience, Commerce, and supporting platform integrations.
    • Provide technical leadership to engineering teams, ensuring alignment with architectural standards, engineering best practices, and product objectives.
    • Drive solution delivery by supporting backlog refinement, identifying technical dependencies, estimating complexity, and mitigating implementation risks.
    • Own technical decision-making within delivery teams, providing guidance on design patterns, frameworks, integrations, and implementation approaches.
    • Establish and enforce engineering standards covering code quality, automated testing, security, accessibility, observability, and maintainability.
    • Review and approve technical designs, code contributions, and implementation approaches to ensure consistency and long-term sustainability.
    • Collaborate with engineering teams to identify and address technical debt, performance bottlenecks, and operational inefficiencies.
    • Ensure solutions meet agreed Non-Functional Requirements including performance, scalability, resilience, security, reliability, and operational readiness.
    • Partner with Architects and Engineering teams to evaluate new technologies, validate architectural approaches through prototypes, and drive continuous technical improvement.
    • Support production operations, major incident resolution, root cause analysis, and implementation of corrective actions.
    • Mentor engineers and foster a culture of technical excellence, knowledge sharing, automation, continuous learning, and accountability.
    • Contribute to technical roadmap planning by identifying engineering improvements, modernization opportunities, and platform evolution initiatives.
    • Collaborate across Web, Commerce, Identity, Loyalty, and adjacent platform teams to ensure successful end-to-end delivery of customer experiences.

Key Skills:
    • Extensive experience in Technical Leadership, Lead Engineering, Principal Engineer, or similar senior software engineering roles within large-scale digital consumer ecosystems.
    • Strong expertise delivering digital commerce solutions, including customer journeys, catalogue management, promotions, pricing, cart, checkout, order management, and integration with downstream systems.
    • Deep understanding of modern frontend engineering, including headless, composable, API-first, and cloud-native implementation approaches.
    • Proven experience leading engineering teams delivering large-scale consumer-facing web and digital commerce platforms.
    • Strong hands-on experience designing and implementing solutions across multiple products, teams, and technical domains.
    • Experience working closely with Solution Architects to translate architecture into successful production implementations.
    • Strong understanding of software engineering practices, including CI/CD, automated testing, quality engineering, DevOps, observability, and site reliability principles.
    • Strong knowledge of system integration patterns, APIs, microservices, event-driven architectures, and asynchronous communication models.
    • Experience balancing functional requirements with performance, scalability, reliability, security, maintainability, and operational considerations.
    • Demonstrated ability to mentor engineers, lead technical discussions, conduct design reviews, and influence technical decisions.
    • Experience supporting production-critical systems and driving operational excellence across engineering teams.
    • Experience working in Agile, Product-Centric, and DevOps delivery models.

Preferred Qualifications:
