What is a freelance web developer?

A freelance web developer is an independent professional who designs, builds, and maintains websites for clients on a project or contract basis, rather than working as a full-time employee for a single company. They often work with a range of clients, including businesses, organizations, and individuals, offering services such as website creation, updates, troubleshooting, and optimization. Freelance web developers typically manage their own schedules, find their own clients, and may specialize in areas like front-end, back-end, or full-stack development. They use a variety of programming languages and tools depending on the requirements of each project. This career offers flexibility, but also requires self-motivation and strong communication skills to manage client relationships effectively.

What does a freelance web developer do?

Freelance web developers create eye-catching and user-friendly websites to generate web traffic and promote their clients' products and services. Unlike staff web developers, freelance web developers are independent contractors who may work for an individual or business on a short- or long-term basis. As a freelance web developer, you determine your target audience based on your client's customer base and design a website to attract new customers and keep current customers interested. You may also meet with your client to ensure you understand their expectations and wants for their website. When developing a design, you may collaborate with a team to create a new site or find ways to improve an existing one. Functionality and aesthetic appeal are your two primary goals.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a freelance web developer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Freelance Web Developer, you need strong proficiency in programming languages like HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and often frameworks such as React or Vue, supported by a solid portfolio of completed projects. Familiarity with version control systems like Git, content management systems (e.g., WordPress), and basic SEO or web analytics tools is typically expected. Excellent time management, self-motivation, and clear client communication are crucial soft skills for managing multiple projects and building client relationships. These qualities are essential for delivering high-quality work independently, meeting client expectations, and sustaining a successful freelance business.

How do freelance web developers typically manage client communication and project expectations?

Freelance web developers often handle all aspects of client communication themselves, from initial consultations to project delivery and support. Effective communication is crucial for understanding client goals, setting clear timelines, and managing expectations regarding deliverables and revisions. Many freelancers use project management tools, regular progress updates, and detailed contracts to ensure both parties are aligned throughout the process. This proactive approach helps prevent misunderstandings and builds strong client relationships, which are essential for repeat business and referrals.

Job description

Marketing Manager

Full-Time/Exempt

Location: Remote (U.S.) or Hybrid (Southport, CT)

Role Overview

Lincoln Healthcare Leadership is an advisory and thought leadership firm that works exclusively with CEOs and executive teams from large, forward-thinking senior care organizations to strengthen leadership, sharpen strategy, and spark innovation. By delivering visionary intelligence and fostering purposeful connections through best-in-class conferences and year-round engagement, executives accelerate decisions, turn ideas into action, and shape the future of care delivery.

Home Care 100 is THE premier leadership event in the home-based care sector, and this role will take ownership of executing the established go-to-market strategy for Home Care 100's two annual conferences aimed at driving conference attendance and sponsorships. This role requires expertise in leveraging multi-channel campaigns to attract a high-level, skeptical and busy C-level audience.

This is a hands-on role for someone who thrives turning a proven strategy into flawless execution, and who's energized by finding smart, creative ways to make it even better.

Today, most of our reach comes through owned channels - email, direct mail, LinkedIn, and word of mouth from a loyal base of returning attendees. We're looking to build beyond that into more advanced paid media, SEO, and public relations, and the ideal candidate can help support that expansion.

This role reports to the VP of Marketing.

Why Join Lincoln Healthcare Leadership?

At Lincoln Healthcare Leadership, you’ll be part of a team with a powerful purpose: elevating healthcare by inspiring leaders. Our mission is to drive excellence in healthcare leadership, strategy, and innovation through exceptional insights and exceptional communities - improving the U.S. healthcare system toward higher quality, lower cost, and more coordinated care. Our values guide how we show up every day:

• Integrity – We do the right thing for our clients, our communities, and each other.

• Quality – We hold a high bar in everything we do.

• Service – We lead with warmth, care, and professionalism.

• Leadership – We define what’s next and lead others toward that vision.

• Boldness – We challenge the status quo in all aspects of our business pursuits.

• Teamwork – We are one Lincoln team, supporting each other to deliver results.

• Culture – We each contribute to creating an environment where people thrive.

We are committed to being an employer of choice, prioritizing flexibility, well-being, and professional growth.

What You’ll Do

Campaign Development & Execution: Lead the hands-on execution of marketing campaigns to maximize attendance and sponsorship (email, direct mail, LinkedIn, and web, with a growing mix of paid and earned channels).

Cross-Functional Coordination: Serve as the day-to-day marketing point of contact and collaborate with internal teams (Sales, Operations, and Education) to ensure seamless project management, deadlines are met and deliverables are on brand.

Copywriting & Content: Leverage existing messaging and year-specific programming to develop compelling, concise copy across emails, landing pages, social posts, and promotional materials that resonate with C-level home care executives.

Promotional Materials Support: Develop materials in support of both attendee and sponsor acquisition (such as sponsor prospectus) and maintain a central repository.

Performance Reporting: Track campaign performance, report results to leadership teams, and recommend adjustments and improvements.

Budget Management: Develop budget, ensure expenses stay within established budget, and understand when smart tradeoffs are needed.

Channel Expansion: Help execute new channels (paid social, SEO, press) to extend reach.

Vendor Management: Manage relationships with outside vendors and freelancers as needed.

Who You Are

You're a smart marketer with experience in live events - conferences, trade shows, or similar high-stake gatherings - and you understand the discipline that events demand: hard deadlines, lean budgets, and an audience you get one shot at convincing.

Intellectually Curious: You are genuinely interested in the businesses you're marketing to. You'll build a real understanding of home-based care providers and their C-suite's priorities and use it to develop campaigns that resonate.

A Strong Writer: You can turn a detailed conference agenda into copy that's concise, persuasive, and consistent across email, print, web, and social.

Creative but Grounded: You are just as comfortable building on what's already working as you are identifying new ideas to how we attract attendees.

Organized Under Pressure: You can manage simultaneous campaigns and deadlines without sacrificing quality.

An Owner: Whether the task is small or large, you have passion for quality work and take responsibility for achieving your goals. In a small company like ours, a “roll up your sleeves” mentality is a must.

A Strong Collaborator: You'll work across Sales, Operations, Education, external vendors, and our healthcare executive clients - balancing persuasiveness with genuine listening and tact.

Qualifications

• 5 years of marketing experience, with meaningful experience in event, conference, trade show or field marketing ideal.

• Proven success in multi-channel marketing campaign creation.

• Highly proficient with computers (PC/Mac), Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite, project management platforms (Monday.com or similar) and CRM (Hubspot or similar).

• Comfortable working directly with senior leadership and cross-functional teams in a small-company environment.

• Exposure to paid media, SEO, or earned media/PR is a plus, but not required.

• Ability to travel to both Home Care 100 conferences per year (details below).

We understand that not every candidate will meet every qualification listed. If you bring relevant, transferable skills and a willingness to learn, we’d love to hear from you.

Location & Travel

This position may be fully remote or hybrid based out of our Southport, CT office. Team members who choose the hybrid option typically work from the Southport office approximately three days per week, though schedules may vary based on business needs and personal preference.

Fully remote employees should be available to travel to Southport, CT for select company events, such as all-staff meetings and holiday celebrations.

All employees, regardless of location, are required to travel to both annual Home Care 100 conferences, as well as occasional industry conferences or professional development events as needed. Compensation & Benefits We offer a competitive and thoughtful total rewards package, including:

• Annual base salary: $90,000 - $100,000. Actual salaries may vary within or outside the stated range based on factors including, but not limited to, education, training, experience, professional achievements, business needs, and geographic location. Candidates are encouraged to include their salary expectations with their application.

• Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage

• 401(k) with company match

• Generous PTO, sick leave and paid parental leave policies

• Flexible work arrangements and remote work options where applicable

• Sabbatical eligibility after 7 years of employment

• Profit sharing after 1 year of employment
