Job description

| POSITION                                         Paid Senior Support Desk Technician Intern
| LOCATION                                        D Russel Lee Building
| GENERAL DESCRIPTION             
The Senior Support Desk Technician must have previous experience working on the student-run support desk. The Senior Technician is expected to provide leadership and direction for the desk as a whole, including:




  • being a role model for all other desk staff.

  • creating written and video documentation for use by the desk staff.

  • reviewing processes and procedures and providing input to the Butler Tech IT team.

  • reviewing tickets created by the desk staff and identifying errors and communicating correct process to relevant staff.

  • encouraging junior staff to step out of their comfort zone in providing excellent service for BT.

  • occasionally participating in IT Department staff meetings to provide updates and receive feedback.

The Student Support Desk is designed to be a student-run, student-managed function with minimal oversight from Butler Tech staff. The desk is expected to operate as part of the Butler Tech IT department, however, with full access to the rest of the staff and fully utilizing the same tools as the rest of the department.

Students will be provided with Butler Tech shirts and a set of computer tools which they will be allowed to keep upon completion of their internship.

Interns are expected to work between 8 and 20 hours a week. A schedule will be worked out at the start of the internship between the student, the counseling office and IT staff. 

Internships run from September to April.
| QUALIFICATIONS

  • Current Fairfield Township Campus student in one of the following programs:

    • IT,

    • Engineering,

    • Digital/Emerging Media, or

    • Business;

  • At least 1 year of previous Support Desk Intern experience;

  • Basic knowledge of computer hardware, software, and networking relevant to the position; 

  • Strong oral and written communication skills; 

  • Ability to follow instructions and work as part of a team;

  • Strong work ethic and a positive attitude;

  • Ability to provide customer service, document progress, organize, prioritize, problem-solve, think critically, and exercise professional judgement;

  • Satisfactory attendance and discipline record.
