Big Ass Fans

Lexington, KY • On-site

Full-time

Posted 16 days ago

Job description

Big Ass Who?
We didn't set out to start a fan company. We set out to solve a problem-workplace discomfort. (Sorry, HR, not your kind.) Facilities become furnaces during the summer, but businesses still expect peak performance and productivity. Without providing the basic human right of comfort, that's just asinine. Seeing how overhead fans cooled California dairy cows begged a massive question for our founder. "Can a fan be made to revolutionize comfort for people?" he uttered.
That's when the HVLS Fan Company was born-with the first-ever patented high-volume, low-speed fan. But that name? BOR-ing. And customers knew it. We kept getting calls asking, "Are you the guys who make those big ass fans?" Hell yeah, we are. And Big Ass Fans was born, complete with our own cheeky donkey mascot, Fanny. Today, we don't just move air, we transform experiences. Big Ass Fans deliver comfort where it counts. We build every product like lives depend on it. Because, turns out, they do.
Our success is a result of the Big Ass Fans team's innovation. Are you seeking an opportunity to work with extraordinary people with an entrepreneurial spirit? Do you have something that sets you apart from the rest? With a bias for action, we want you to #livelifebigass and bring the next great BAF product to market. From our customers to our employees, we are passionate about what we can accomplish together. The successful candidate will bring passion, energy, and a "get it done" mentality to BAF and the industrial business and contribute in a meaningful way to realize the company's full potential in the market.
Opportunity
As a Junior Web Developer, you'll play an important role in supporting and enhancing the company's websites and ecommerce platforms while working alongside and providing day-to-day support to the Senior Web Developer. You'll contribute to front-end development, content-driven site updates, troubleshooting, QA testing, documentation, and ongoing platform maintenance to help deliver a seamless digital experience for customers.
Working within our modern headless web and commerce ecosystem, you'll gain hands-on experience with technologies including BigCommerce, Contentstack, Netlify, Salesforce, Epicor Kinetic, and related integrations. This role is ideal for an early-career developer who is eager to learn, collaborate with IT, Marketing, and external partners, and grow their technical skills while making a meaningful impact on high-visibility digital platforms.
If you're passionate about web development, excited to learn from experienced professionals, and ready to help shape exceptional digital experiences, we'd love to hear from you!
What You'll Do
  • Support the Senior Web Developer in building, maintaining, and enhancing bigassfans.com and related ecommerce web experiences.
  • Assist with front-end development tasks using modern web technologies such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript, TypeScript, React, Next.js, and headless/JAMstack patterns.
  • Help implement website updates, landing pages, content templates, product experience improvements, and reusable components in partnership with IT and Marketing.
  • Perform testing, debugging, and quality assurance across browsers, devices, and responsive breakpoints to ensure a reliable customer experience.
  • Assist with basic integrations, API-connected features, and data flows involving BigCommerce, Contentstack, Salesforce, Epicor Kinetic, and other platforms under senior guidance.
  • Participate in code reviews, follow established coding standards, and contribute clean, maintainable code aligned with security, performance, accessibility, and SEO best practices.
  • Troubleshoot production issues, document findings, and support timely resolution of defects or site incidents.
  • Share on-call hours for triage and resolution of production incidents.
  • Maintain technical documentation, deployment notes, support procedures, and knowledge base materials to strengthen team continuity and backup coverage.
  • Stay current on web development trends and proactively build skills across the company's website and ecommerce technology stack.

What You'll Bring
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Web Development, or related field; equivalent hands-on experience, bootcamp training, certifications, or portfolio work may also be considered
  • 1-3 years of web development experience, internship experience, or a strong portfolio demonstrating practical front-end development skills
  • This is an on-site position - Must be able to work in office in Lexington, KY
  • Working knowledge of HTML, CSS, JavaScript, TypeScript, responsive design, cross-browser compatibility, and modern front-end development practices
  • Exposure to React, Next.js, Git, APIs, headless CMS concepts, ecommerce platforms, or JAMstack deployment patterns preferred
  • Familiarity with platforms such as BigCommerce, Contentstack, Netlify, Salesforce, or ERP integrations is a plus, but not required
  • Ability to test, debug, document, and communicate technical issues clearly with developers, business stakeholders, and external partners
  • Strong attention to detail and an interest in web performance, accessibility, SEO, analytics, and user experience
  • Curious, coachable, and eager to learn from senior developers while taking ownership of assigned tasks
  • Comfortable working predominantly on-site in a fast-paced, collaborative environment with IT, Marketing, ecommerce, and external implementation partners

Think you have what it takes, but your background doesn't perfectly align with this role? No sweat! If this position gets your fan spinning, we encourage you to apply and tell us how you'll succeed with your unique skills in your application.
First 90 Days
Every Big Ass Fans employee is essential in working towards the company's growth goals, and no goal is successful without a plan.
