The Atlanta Community Food Bank is working to end hunger in our community with the food, people and big ideas needed so that no one worries where their next meal is coming from. Since 1979, we've been providing food for a growing network of nonprofit partners - including food pantries, community kitchens, childcare centers, night shelters and senior centers. We currently serve more than 700 partners in 29 counties across metro Atlanta and north Georgia.

About the Role:

The Senior Manager, Transportation is responsible for the leadership and direction of the Transportation department, including overseeing a team of 20+ employees. This individual is responsible for the total functioning of the Transportation program to include managing both fleet and driver workforce in an efficient, cost-effective manner, defining and driving adherence to performance metrics and leading all aspects of the day-to-day operations including scheduling, employee relations, training, safety and performance management and employee development. This position reports to the Director, Logistics.

What You'll Do:

Manages and Continuously Improves Transportation Services:

Leads day to day execution of the operational plans for fleet management of drivers and load dispatchers, including efficient route optimization, equipment utilization, safety and hours of service.

Directs department supervisors in achieving operational and customer service excellence.

Defines accountabilities and metrics with measurable performance goals for supervisors and their subordinates.

Support budget planning and ensures department adheres to planned and approved levels.

Leads Customer Service:

Create and manage a world-class experience for our partners who donate to and/or receive product from the Food Bank.

Oversees execution of the daily operational plan that meets the needs of stakeholders.

Manages and ensures supervisors and team are trained on the mission

and operational needs of the Food Bank.

Leads a Successful Team:

Proactively identifies areas where team need support and develops plans and schedules for delivering training specifically to those needs. Supports Supervisors with their individual staff members or teams in a similar manner.

Takes responsibility for personal knowledge development and regularly seeks opportunities to improve knowledge and skills with new systems, processes, resources, and tools.

Addresses and resolves performance and discipline issues in a timely manner.

Provides regular feedback to the team around performance and progress against goals.

What You'll Need: Skills and Experience your resume should demonstrate:

Demonstrate knowledge in managing transportation logistics, including route planning, scheduling, and optimization to ensure timely and efficient delivery of food supplies.

Knowledge of fleet operations, maintenance, and safety regulations for vehicles used in food distribution, including trucks, vans, and refrigerated vehicles.

Ability to collaborate with transportation vendors, carriers, and partners to negotiate contracts, manage relationships, and ensure cost-effective transportation solutions.

Knowledgeable in budget development, cost analysis, and financial management to optimize transportation costs while maintaining service quality.

Familiarity with transportation regulations, safety standards, and compliance requirements, including DOT regulations, food safety protocols, and driver training.

Strong leadership skills to supervise transportation teams, drivers, and support staff, providing direction, training, and performance management.

Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, to coordinate transportation activities, collaborate with internal teams, and communicate with external stakeholders.

Ability to identify transportation challenges, troubleshoot issues, and implement solutions to ensure reliable and efficient food distribution.

Capacity to adapt to changing priorities, handle multiple tasks simultaneously, and work effectively in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
