What is a senior third party risk analyst?

A Senior Third Party Risk Analyst is a professional responsible for evaluating and monitoring the risks associated with a company’s external vendors, suppliers, and service providers. They assess potential security, financial, compliance, and operational risks that third parties may pose to the organization. This role typically involves conducting due diligence, developing risk assessment frameworks, and collaborating with internal teams to ensure regulatory compliance and protect sensitive data. Senior analysts often lead risk assessment initiatives, mentor junior analysts, and work closely with stakeholders to mitigate identified risks. Their work is crucial in safeguarding the organization from potential disruptions and reputational harm.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a senior third party risk analyst?

To thrive as a Senior Third Party Risk Analyst, you need expertise in risk management, vendor assessment, and regulatory compliance, often supported by a bachelor’s degree in business, finance, or a related field. Familiarity with GRC tools (such as Archer or OneTrust), risk assessment frameworks, and relevant certifications like CTPRA or CISA are typically required. Strong analytical thinking, communication skills, and stakeholder management set top performers apart in this role. These skills ensure effective identification and mitigation of third-party risks, safeguarding organizational integrity and regulatory adherence.

How does a senior third party risk analyst typically collaborate with other departments to manage vendor risks?

The Wisconsin Foundation and Alumni Association (WFAA)*, the private fundraising and alumni relations organization for the University of Wisconsin-Madison is seeking an Information Security Manager to join the Information Technology department!

The Information Security Manager is responsible for leading and continuously improving the security posture, day-to-day operations, security engineering, incident response, vulnerability management, and governance, risk, and compliance (GRC) functions, and executing the organization’s strategic direction. This role is also highly focused on operational excellence, a security-first culture, and a strong mandate to drive automation and AI adoption across security operations. This position provides direct people leadership and technical oversight across the security program, recommending and setting standards and metrics to ensure a resilient and proactive and effective security posture. The Information Security Manager partners closely with the Sr. Managing Director, Infrastructure & Security, Infrastructure & Security team members, and other stakeholders to translate organizational priorities into actionable security roadmaps, ensuring consistent operational excellence across all security functions, and to develop the engineers and administrators within the team.

The ideal candidate combines deep technical credibility in cybersecurity with proven people management skills, strong judgment under pressure, and the ability to influence security culture and provide security education across technical and non-technical teams. This is a hybrid position that will require you to work on-site in our Madison, WI office location at least two days a week.

Who is WFAA?
The Wisconsin Foundation and Alumni Association is a private, nonprofit corporation that encourages individuals and organizations to make gifts to the university and to connect with the UW. We provide important engagement opportunities to link UW–Madison alumni to each other and to their alma mater, building a strong community of Badgers.

Diversity and Inclusion:

Just as the university community benefits from differing viewpoints, perspectives, and experiences, inclusion and diversity are imperative for the success of our mission. WFAA values people and the differences that they bring to the organization, and creates an environment in which all staff members and constituents feel respected and have opportunities to thrive.
