Job Title: Senior Software Developer (.NET / Sustaining Engineering)

Location: Indianapolis, IN

Duration: 6+ Months

Role Overview

We are seeking a dependable Senior Software Developer to serve as a technical leader on an Agile team maintaining a portfolio of established enterprise Microsoft .NET applications and a legacy Classic ASP system. This is primarily a sustaining engineering and technical leadership role focused on platform stability, defect resolution, targeted enhancements, and mentoring developers across local and offshore teams.

Key Responsibilities
  • Technical Leadership & Mentorship: Provide day-to-day technical direction, conduct code reviews, enforce coding standards, and mentor onshore/offshore team partners. Serve as the primary technical point of escalation for complex production issues.

  • Sustaining Engineering: Diagnose and resolve complex production defects, deliver minor-to-moderate enhancements, and execute system maintenance to keep business-critical systems stable and secure.

  • Legacy System Support: Maintain and support a legacy Classic ASP/VBScript application, incrementally mitigating risks and contributing to long-term application modernization strategies.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with Product Owners, Infrastructure/DevOps, and Data Engineering teams on deployments, monitoring, release management, and data quality improvements.

  • Documentation & Process: Maintain technical runbooks, architecture diagrams, SOPs, and knowledge bases to ensure operational readiness and compliance with governance standards.

Required Technical Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience: Minimum 8+ years of professional application development experience.

  • Core .NET Stack: 5+ years with .NET Framework (specifically versions 4.6.2 and 4.8) and C#.

  • Database & ORM: Deep experience with SQL Server, writing complex T-SQL queries, and using Entity Framework 6 (or earlier) with a Database-First approach.

  • Legacy Technologies: Willingness and capability to maintain legacy codebases, specifically Classic ASP and VBScript.

  • Testing & CI/CD: Proficient with unit testing frameworks (NUnit/xUnit) and automated CI/CD pipelines in Azure DevOps.

  • Methodology: Proven experience working in Agile environments (Scrum/Kanban) and leading/mentoring team members.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Direct, hands-on experience refactoring or supporting Classic ASP and VBScript applications.

  • Familiarity with SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS/DTSX) and Reporting Services (SSRS).

  • Experience migrating legacy .NET Framework platforms up to modern .NET 8+.

  • Previous experience managing daily task handoffs with offshore development partners.
