Where is the work:

Monday to Thursday, work onsite with your colleagues. Fridays, choose your work location, balancing what your work requires.ThisSeniorModeling Engineerwill create,maintainand improve modeling simulationand data management software applications to support new product and technology development projects atTrane Technologies. This Senior Engineering role will also support the use of these applications to troubleshoot,analyzeand offer solutions to performance & reliability problems of HVAC components & systems in the R&D Lab or field Sales & Service organization.
What you will do:
  • Become familiar with Trane Technologies HVAC Products, including Residential A/Cs and Heat Pumps, Furnaces, Commercial Chillers, Rooftops, Air Handler products and Transport products
  • Develop 1D&0D components & systems models, including furnace, refrigeration system, electrical system and other sub-systems for HVAC & R products
  • Develop, standardize, and maintain HVAC & R engineering design process automation and simulation data management system for Residential (North America) business
  • Work as component model Subject Matter Expert to lead the development and discussion in related project development from multiple business units
  • Well understand lab tests and enhance modeling and simulation processes, also capable of lead the lab test design for model validation purpose
  • Provide guidance and leadership to designers, lab technicians and other team members in modeling context
  • Oversee and lead modeling and simulation related communications in Residential (North America) Business Unit for design processes
  • Link and merge regional requirements into other businesses and regions such as Commercial HVAC Chiller and Unitary SBU, Asia Pacific and Europe and Middle East, and participate in strategic development plan of the organization
  • Scan and screen new technologies in HVAC&R in modeling and simulation context
  • Work closely with team members, cross-functional associates, and internal customers to gather requirements, provide updates/reports, training to refrigeration engineer, etc.
  • Prepare complete schedules and reports for assigned projects, including presentations to stakeholders
  • Provide engineering support to the Product Planning and Technical Support Team
  • Coordinate external collaborations for general modeling and simulation fields in North America area.

Minimum Education and/or Experience Required:
  • Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering is required.
  • At least 5-years of work experience in air-conditioning/HVAC system design and modeling is required.
  • Ph.D. in Engineering is a plus.
  • Familiar with popular industrial level modeling and simulation tools and platforms, with at least 3 years' experience to use or develop modeling and simulation related tools.
Essential Skills or Knowledge:
  • Expertise in the thermal sciences (thermodynamics, heat transfer and fluid mechanics), gained preferably from experience with HVAC components & systems
  • Familiar with air conditioning products, such as Residential Furnace, Commercial Chillers, Rooftops, Air Handlers and Transport Refrigeration
  • Experience in air conditioning system and component design and optimization
  • Programming capability desirable. Experience with Python, Modelica, able to understand legacy codes as well as developing new component and system models in modern languages/scripting platforms
  • Familiarity with commercialized software release and maintenance process
  • Familiarity with problem formulation & solution using numerical methods via commercial solvers & custom code required
