Job description

An overview of this role

As a Technical Program Manager on GitLab's all-remote R&D PMO team, you will own complex, end-to-end programs that are central to our AI-powered DevSecOps strategy. You will drive high-priority initiatives across product, engineering, data, and security teams, transforming strategic vision into executable plans that deliver innovative capabilities like the GitLab Duo Agent Platform and next-generation developer tools. You will work closely with executive leaders and cross-functional stakeholders, serving as the bridge between strategy and execution through clear communication, proactive risk management, and structured program delivery. In your first year, you will independently lead strategic programs, driving predictable execution, thoughtful tradeoffs between quality and speed, and transparent stakeholder alignment.

Some examples of our projects:

  • Leading the GitLab Duo Agent Platform from GA through enterprise adoption, including customer onboarding, support models, and billing integration for AI-driven capabilities
  • Delivering data-intensive platform initiatives that enhance developer productivity and enterprise analytics capabilities
  • Driving infrastructure modernization and scalability programs that support our growing customer base
  • Orchestrating security and compliance initiatives that maintain our industry-leading DevSecOps standards

What you will do

  • Lead end-to-end technical programs across product, engineering, data, and security, from initial scope through launch and continuous improvement
  • Collaborate closely with executive leaders and senior stakeholders to translate strategic vision into actionable roadmaps and align on priorities and tradeoffs
  • Coordinate distributed teams across time zones using strong asynchronous communication, providing structure, clarity, and consistent status updates
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive program plans, proactively identifying and mitigating risks and dependencies while facilitating decisions that balance speed, quality, and customer impact
  • Partner with customer success and cross-functional teams to refine communication plans, and operational workflows
  • Champion GitLab's values and culture within programs, fostering collaborative excellence, continuous improvement, and innovation

What you will bring

  • Proven experience leading technical program initiatives in product, engineering, data, or security environments, with demonstrated success delivering complex programs from inception through scaled adoption
  • Demonstrated ability to define strategy and create clarity within extreme ambiguity
  • Strong background in SaaS, cloud infrastructure, or DevOps technology companies, with ability to quickly master the GitLab platform and AI/ML initiatives
  • Proven experience influencing and driving impact at a division and company-wide scale, affecting market position and revenue
  • Excellence in cross-functional leadership, with experience partnering with engineering, product, security teams and engaging effectively with senior and C-level stakeholders
  • Outstanding communication skills, including asynchronous collaboration, executive reporting, and the ability to translate technical complexity into clear business impact
  • Track record of success in fast-paced, dynamic environments with evolving technical requirements and market opportunities
  • Strong facilitation and influence skills, with ability to drive consensus across diverse stakeholder groups while building trust through transparency and delivery excellence
  • Expertise in high-level stakeholder management, including masterful communication with Executive Boards and enterprise Customers
  • Collaborative leadership style aligned with GitLab's values, including respect, openness to feedback, and commitment to team success
  • Proven track record of redefining organizational operations and serving as an escalation point to resolve highly complex, enterprise-level challenges
  • Proven experience leading complex reliability programs across multiple engineering organizations
  • Welcome candidates from diverse backgrounds, including those with consulting, enterprise technology, or technical leadership experience who have owned outcomes and delivered transformational initiatives
  • Ability to act as a visionary leader, shaping R&D direction and fostering technical excellence across the organization

About the team: The Technical Program Management team sits within GitLab's R&D Program Management Office and drives product, engineering, data, and security initiatives across our AI-powered DevSecOps platform. You will join our growing, distributed team of Technical Program Managers currently spanning North America and Europe. We own the end-to-end delivery of complex, cross-functional programs including AI platform capabilities, enterprise customer initiatives, and strategic technology transformations. As an all-remote team, we excel at asynchronous communication to coordinate across time zones while partnering closely with executive leaders and stakeholders to deliver business-critical outcomes.
