About the Role

The Security Engineering team is seeking a skilled and highly communicative Senior Security Engineer with recent, hands-on experience managing Akamai security products, including Kona Site Defender (KSD), WAF, and Bot Manager.

This role will be responsible for safeguarding major digital assets and supporting live incident response, including communication with technical teams and senior leadership. The ideal candidate is someone who combines technical expertise with the ability to communicate clearly and calmly in high-pressure, executive-facing environments.


Responsibilities
  • Configure, maintain, and optimize Akamai security tools, particularly Kona Site Defender (KSD), Bot Manager, and WAF
  • Detect and respond to real-world security events such as bot attacks or malicious traffic
  • Deliver clear, executive-level updates during security incidents
  • Collaborate with engineering, SRE, and architecture teams to ensure secure traffic handling
  • Monitor and analyze performance and telemetry using tools such as Splunk, AppDynamics, or Prometheus
  • Contribute to secure edge architecture decisions and implementation
  • Participate in ongoing improvement of observability and resilience standards

Required Qualifications
  • 3+ years of recent, hands-on experience with Akamai security tools (Kona Site Defender, WAF, Bot Manager)
  • Strong communication skills with proven ability to interface with executive stakeholders during live incidents
  • 2+ years of scripting or programming experience (Python, Java, or Node.js preferred)
  • Experience with observability tools (must include Splunk; others like AppDynamics or Prometheus are a plus)
  • Experience supporting web security or traffic management in high-traffic production environments
  • Ability to troubleshoot and remediate malicious activity or performance degradation at the edge
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with CI/CD tools (Jenkins, GitLab CI, etc.)
  • Familiarity with containerized environments (e.g., Kubernetes, Fargate, ECS)
  • Experience with edge security architecture in media, entertainment, or other high-visibility industries
  • Web server configuration and tuning experience (Apache, NGINX, Node.js)
