Senior Medical Writer- ICON- Remote USA

This is a hands-on scientific writing position within ICON's Global Medical Communications Group. As a Senior Medical Writer at ICON, you will lead the development and execution of medical writing strategies for clinical research projects, contributing to the advancement of innovative treatments and therapies.

What You Will Do:You will take ownership of medical writing deliverables, applying your expertise to complex challenges.

  • Develop high-quality medical publications and communications from initial concept through final delivery.
  • Interpret complex clinical and scientific data and translate findings into accurate, clear, and concise content.
  • Ensure deliverables comply with applicable authorship guidelines, journal requirements, client confidentiality standards, and industry regulations.
  • Represent assigned projects during internal and client meetings, including status updates, author discussions, and publication committee meetings.
  • Contribute to client publication and communication plans by supporting timelines, venue selection, and alignment with drug development objectives.
  • Support medical writing resource management, including monitoring workloads and helping coordinate junior writers.
  • Collaborate with scientific and account management teams to meet timelines, communicate project status, and proactively identify risks or resource constraints.
  • Assist with onboarding and mentoring new and junior medical writers.
  • Devote approximately 5% of time to business development by providing research and writing support for proposals and organic account growth opportunities.

Your Profile:You will have a strong foundation in medical writing, with the experience to work independently and guide others.
Required qualifications and experience:

  • A PhD, PharmD, or MD in a scientific or healthcare related discipline
  • 3 + years of medical writing experience (experience of high-level content development)
  • Prior relevant experience in a medical publications/medical communications agency strongly preferred
  • Proficiency in interpreting and summarizing complex clinical trial data, scientific research findings, and statistical analyses, with excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills
  • Proven history of relevant high-level writing support, including: proficiency with ICMJE and GPP guidelines; ability to read, analyze, and interpret scientific and technical journal content; ability to develop and write to prescribed styles and formats
  • Strong understanding of regulatory requirements (e.g., ICH-GCP, FDA, EMA) governing the preparation and submission of clinical documents and publications, and experience in interacting with regulatory agencies during the review and approval process.
  • Ability to work with cross-functional teams (e.g., editorial/library services, graphics/digital services, presentations support, etc)
    Proficiency with commonly used software including but not limited to word processing (e.g., MS Word), graphics (e.g., PowerPoint or Prism), and bibliographic software (e.g., EndNote), and adaptability to other applicable software as may be required from time to time
  • Experience in resource organizing and mentoring
