Job description

Amazon DynamoDB powers many of the world's fastest-growing businesses - Lyft, Airbnb, Redfin - as well as enterprises like Samsung, Toyota, and Capital One. It also powers multiple high-traffic Amazon properties including Alexa, Amazon.com, and all Amazon fulfillment centers. As one of the largest distributed database systems in the world, we believe it is always Day 1 and are constantly improving and adding new capabilities.
DynamoDB Global Tables enables customers to replicate their tables across multiple AWS regions, providing low-latency reads and writes globally with built-in high availability and disaster recovery. We recently launched Multi-Region Strong Consistency (GT-MRSC) - offering zero-RPO, globally linearizable replication without a primary region - alongside our established eventually-consistent Global Tables product. Our team owns the full stack: the core replication engine, control plane workflows, the strongly-consistent data plane, and integration with multi-region journaling infrastructure. We operate at massive scale - hundreds of thousands of active Global Tables across all commercial AWS regions.
We are looking for a deeply technical and passionate software development leader to drive this next chapter. As an SDM on Global Tables, you will lead a team of SDEs building distributed systems that operate at the intersection of consistency, availability, and low-latency replication across AWS regions.
Key job responsibilities
• Own both the people and technical direction for your team - balancing customer-facing feature delivery, operational excellence, and long-term architectural investments
• Partner with Principal Engineers, peer SDMs, and Product Managers to define customer experience, drive design reviews, and resolve cross-team dependencies across DynamoDB
• Drive operational excellence for mission-critical services processing millions of requests per second - owning production readiness, incident reduction, and on-call health
• Hire, mentor, and grow engineers - building tech leads, guiding career development, and fostering an inclusive team culture
• Make pragmatic tradeoffs between delivery velocity, system reliability, and technical debt.
To succeed in this role, you must be passionate about solving deep technical challenges and being a great people manager. You must care deeply about system availability and reliability, and understand what it means to own a mission-critical service. You will exercise your intellectual curiosity, hire and lead motivated teams of sharp individuals.
