Job description

Job Title: Senior Manager, Risk and Reliabilty

Job Summary/Purpose
The Senior Manager, Risk & Reliability provides strategic direction for the organizations focused on identifying and mitigating risks associated with work execution that may compromise the reliable operation of the transmission system while ensuring holistic support and direction are taken on equipment issues. This role also leads and develops a team of engineers responsible for maintenance engineering, project management support, operations engineering, and emergency restoration activities across transmission and distribution assets. This critical position serves a cross-functional role in driving operational excellence for transmission protection devices and distribution electronic devices, inclusive of all associated processes, supporting all 81 Networks, 21 Grids, and all Capital Projects. Provides technical guidance and direction to a group of SMEs who provide technical support to all Power Delivery Construction and Grid teams, along with Power Generation and Nuclear BUs on the technical aspects of transmission equipment. Influences and sets the structure for organizational adherence to multiple NERC standards.
Job Duties/Responsibilities
1. Challenges the transmission organization to apply consistent risk control processes to Capital Projects and Maintenance activities across the transmission system ensuring Bulk Electric System (BES) Reliability. Oversees the development of procedures, performance metrics and training materials to support the adoption of consistent risk control processes in all transmission functions. Collaborates cross-functionally to influence and integrate a risk control mindset into the culture of the entire Power Delivery organization.
2. Collaborate with key stakeholders across the organization including the Transmission Grids, Capital Projects, Commissioning, Project Management, Control Centers, AM Strategy, Design Engineering, Industrial Accounts, and Distribution Networks to ensure quality technical support is provided timely and alignment on deliverables is achieved. Bring awareness to systemwide deficiencies, lead cross-functional efforts, present strategic solutions, and align organizational initiatives to close gaps.
3. Provide strategic oversight of the organization responsible for reviewing and challenging field execution plans through a risk mitigation lens while determining execution readiness of certain capital and maintenance projects and tasks. Provides recommendations for modifying execution plans to minimize and/or eliminate risk. Participate in project team meetings to discuss risk profiles in early development stages of proposed projects.
4. Collaborate with nuclear leadership to ensure alignment of approach in mitigating risk to Entergy's nuclear generating facilities for both planned and emergent work. Serve as a liaison to Nuclear for Power Delivery on all nuclear procedures and agreements pertaining to transmission.
5. Responsible system owner of NERC standards PRC-004 and PRC-002, while supporting sections of NERC standards TPL-001, PRC-005, 006, 012, 023, 026, 027, CIP-014, and NUC-001. Drives organizational knowledge and adherence to internal procedures and NERC standards.
6. Facilitate technical support with around the clock availability, for all transmission protection and control equipment, transmission line, and substation physical equipment issues, including the development of emergency relay settings. Provides mutual support for transmission type equipment, owned by Nuclear and Power Generation.
7. Provides guidance and direction to the team responsible for developing settings for all Distribution electronic devices across all 81 Networks. Drives initiatives and strategic direction of the Power Delivery organization to reduce customer interruptions through the deployment and maintenance of electronic distribution devices. This team participates in all capital projects, supporting equipment failures, emergency conditions, and troubleshooting activities associated with these devices.
8. Serves in the Incident Command Structure during major events as a leader providing strategic direction and coordination in the system planning section.
9. Serves as a change agent to drive innovation and a culture of continuous improvement through increased utilization of technology and the mindset of performance optimization while improving reliability, customer service, and reducing cost.
10. Able to understand and present complex technical topics with simplification and easy to understand language to audiences ranging from SVP to individual contributors to external industrial customers. Seeks alignment with vice presidents to influence and drive organizational improvements.
Minimum Requirements
Minimum education required of the position
Bachelor's degree in engineering required. Electrical Engineering preferred.
Minimum experience required of the position
8 years of engineering and/or operational experience required with at least 3 years preferred in transmission grid, capital construction or design engineering and 5 years of progressive supervisory experience in Engineering or Grid Operations.
Minimum knowledge, skills, and abilities required of the position
