What does a senior React engineer do?

A Senior React Engineer is a software professional who specializes in building and maintaining complex web applications using the React.js library. They are responsible for designing high-quality user interfaces, optimizing application performance, and implementing best practices in front-end development. In addition to coding, they often mentor junior developers, contribute to architectural decisions, and collaborate closely with designers and backend engineers to deliver seamless user experiences.

What skills and qualifications are needed to thrive as a senior React engineer?

To thrive as a Senior React Engineer, you need advanced proficiency in JavaScript, deep knowledge of React.js, and experience with front-end architecture, often supported by a degree in computer science or equivalent experience. Familiarity with state management libraries (like Redux), version control systems (such as Git), and modern build tools is essential, and certifications in relevant technologies can be advantageous. Strong problem-solving skills, effective communication, and the ability to mentor others help set you apart in this role. These skills and qualities are crucial for building scalable, high-performance web applications and leading development teams through complex technical challenges.

How does a senior React engineer typically collaborate with designers and backend developers in a project team?

Senior React Engineers play a key role in bridging the gap between user interface design and backend functionality. They regularly collaborate with UX/UI designers to translate visual concepts into interactive, high-performance components, ensuring design feasibility and user experience consistency. Additionally, they work closely with backend developers to integrate APIs, define data requirements, and troubleshoot any integration issues. This cross-functional teamwork is essential for delivering cohesive, scalable applications and often involves regular stand-up meetings, code reviews, and joint planning sessions.

Senior React Engineer

About Amplifire

Amplifire is the leading adaptive eLearning platform built on discoveries in cognitive science. Our technology identifies and corrects knowledge gaps and misinformation—helping learners master faster, retain longer, and perform better. We partner with organizations in healthcare, education, and other high-stakes industries where learning outcomes truly matter.

Overview of the Role

We’re looking for a React Engineer to help build modern, high-performance user experiences on a collaborative, cross-functional product team. You’ll work closely with other frontend developers, backend engineers, QA, and product to deliver features that directly improve learning outcomes.

A key part of this role is our growing use of AI-assisted development. Our team actively uses tools like Codex and Claude Code to improve development speed, enhance code quality, and streamline debugging. We are beginning to explore more advanced, agent-driven workflows, and you will be expected to use AI as a core part of your day-to-day engineering workflow.

You will primarily focus on the frontend—working with React, TypeScript, Redux, React Router, and Chakra UI—integrated with a Java/Spring backend.

Amplifire operates in a regulated environment (e.g., FedRAMP, SOC 2), where quality, auditability, and correctness are critical alongside development speed.

What You’ll DoFrontend Feature Development and Delivery

• Build and maintain frontend features using React, TypeScript, Redux, React Router, and Chakra UI

• Collaborate with engineering, product, and QA to deliver high-quality features and improvements

• Take ownership of work from implementation through delivery

• Write clean, maintainable, and well-tested code

• Troubleshoot and resolve frontend issues, ensuring performance and accessibility

• Participate in code reviews and contribute to technical discussions

AI-Assisted Development and Tooling

· Use AI tools as a core part of your development workflow, not an optional enhancement

· Build and refine AI-agent workflows or lightweight tooling (e.g., scripts, agents) to improve development efficiency

· Evaluate and validate AI-generated code to ensure it is production-ready

· Identify opportunities to automate repetitive engineering tasks

What You Bring

· 4+ years of experience building web applications with React

· Strong proficiency in JavaScript/TypeScript, HTML, and CSS

· Experience with modern React patterns (Hooks, component architecture)

· Ability to take ownership and deliver with minimal oversight

· Experience working in a collaborative, team-based environment

· Hands-on experience applying AI tools or workflows (e.g., Copilot, Claude, ChatGPT) to real production development

· Experience building small tools, scripts, or workflows to improve development efficiency (AI-driven or otherwise)

· Strong problem-solving and debugging skills

· Experience integrating with backend APIs (Java/Spring is a plus)

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Redux, React Router, and/or Chakra UI

• Experience working in a full-stack environment

• Familiarity with modern testing tools (e.g., React Testing Library, Vitest)

What Success Looks Like

• Simple AI-driven tools or workflows (e.g., scripts, agents) are introduced that improve developer efficiency

• All contributions maintain consistent quality standards across the codebase

• The team develops a shared understanding of when AI should and should not be used

• Frontend features are delivered with strong performance, accessibility, and reliability

Compensation

• Base salary range: $135,000 - $155,000

• Final compensation will be based on experience and qualifications.

If you don’t meet every qualification but are excited about the role, we encourage you to apply.
