What is the opportunity?

This is your opportunity to join a leading Global Mobility team as Senior Immigration Advisor (Canada). You will join a Canadian Immigration team of two (Advisor & Sr. Advisor), and report to a Senior Manager.

In this role you will be relied upon for Canadian immigration advice and support for Temporary Foreign Workers (TFW) employed by RBC.You will be part of a team accountable for adherence to Canadian Immigration regulatory compliance on all employee files and operational processes, as well as driving a consistent and responsive employee experience. You will play an important role to act as a liaison between employees, business leaders, Human Resources, and legal counsel to effectively communicate advice, manage expectations, timelines and planning.

What will you do?

  • As part of a team, monitor, audit and ensure temporary foreign worker compliance.

  • Complete immigration assessments for new joining TFW's including but not limited to those on open work permits, recent graduates, student programs and sponsored work permits, or work with counsel to outsource, as needed.

  • Act as the internal subject matter expert (SME) and primary liaison for guidance associated with RBC's Immigration Policy on employment of Temporary Foreign Workers (TFW) in Canada.

  • Manage and update operational components of managing Temporary Foreign Worker (TFW) population for North America, specifically for Canada leveraging technologies (i.e., Workday, ServiceNow, other).

  • Ensure all files are administered per immigration requirements/regulations; proactively track status and ensure appropriate follow-up with stakeholders.

  • Advise the business on solutions, considerations, implications and risks of proposed talent moves/new hires at initial planning stages and throughout the employee's lifecycle.

  • Educate Talent partners (HRBPs, Recruiters, ER) on changes or updates to TFW and Canadian immigration programs.

  • Provide oversight / recommendations on operational processes to ensure immigration compliance on all files.

  • Balance the mitigation of risks while supporting business objectives and the employee's specific needs.

  • Liaise and effectively communicate back legal advice ensuring issues are dealt with and/or escalated appropriately.

  • Ensure effective records retention and tracking of all information for employee immigration files for both internal/external audit.

  • Stay abreast of changes to legislative / regulations and recommend means to integrate them into case management.

What do you need to succeed?

  • Demonstrated expertise in Canadian Immigration coupled with experience in a corporate environment (i.e., in-house legal department, employee relations, human resources, global mobility, etc.).

  • Immigration Consultant (RCIC), Paralegal, LLB, or equivalent government/public policy experience with direct immigration case work is required.

  • Advanced verbal and written communication skills and ability to provide practical advice and solutions that mitigate risk and drive business decisions forward.

  • Bilingual proficiency in French and English is preferred; fluency in both languages is considered a strong asset for this role.

  • Policy development, and operational process efficiency leveraging automated workflows and technology (i.e., Workday or HRIS) is an asset.

  • Organized, detail orientation, business acumen and relationship management skills with ability to work and communicate at all levels of the organization is required.

  • Ability to navigate complex issues and solve to resolution.

  • Experience working under pressure on multiple cases with appropriate speed and accuracy.

  • Self-learner, positive attitude, adaptable and able to work independently as well as part of a team.
