At Northern Trust, the Banking Advisor is responsible for developing new banking relationships and expanding existing client relationships while managing complex credit and deposit solutions for individuals, corporations, and partnerships. This role serves as a primary point of contact for senior client stakeholders, delivering high-quality banking, credit, and treasury management services. The Banking Advisor collaborates closely with internal partners across the Bank to enhance client profitability, improve cash flow, and ensure coordinated, responsive service delivery.
What You'll Do
• Develop new client relationships and broaden existing relationships by identifying prospects and creating targeted marketing strategies for specific clients.
• Manage complex wealth management banking relationships, including credit and treasury management, while identifying opportunities outside of traditional banking in investment and fiduciary services.
• Apply deep knowledge of credit policy, banking products, and risk management principles when advising and servicing clients.
• Proactively self-source new relationships, including cold calling on prospects.
• Structure and negotiate complex loan and/or lease agreements in accordance with guidelines established by senior bank and business unit management.
• Analyze and negotiate loan terms, including pricing, interest rates, and swaps, in line with Credit Policy Committee guidelines, and oversee preparation of financing documentation.
• Advise and consult with clients on Goals Driven Wealth Management.
• Generate new business leads through established relationships with Centers of Influence (COIs) and cultivate an expanded COI network.
• Execute activities that are large in scope, cross-functional, and technically complex.
• Balance high-level operational execution with the development and implementation of strategic business initiatives.
• Interact directly with internal committees and senior management as required.
• Develop, implement, and administer programs within functional areas.
• Solve complex client, credit, and operational problems using sound judgment.
What Will Make You Successful in the Role
• Advanced knowledge of the banking industry, competitive landscape, and financing solutions, typically acquired through formal education and professional experience.
• Working knowledge of investments, trust, and financial consulting concepts to identify cross-selling opportunities.
• Strong negotiation, leadership, and sales skills to develop client relationships and partner networks.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• High degree of flexibility and adaptability to change.
• In-depth conceptual and practical knowledge of the banking discipline, with foundational knowledge of related job disciplines.
• Typically 3 years of experience in financial analysis and client servicing, commercial lending, or leasing.
• Ability to act as a resource for colleagues with less experience and to lead small projects with manageable risks and resource requirements.
Salary Range:
$137,400 - 233,600 USD
Salary range is a good faith estimate of base pay. Northern Trust provides a comprehensive benefits package including retirement benefits (401k and pension), health and welfare benefits (medical, dental, vision, spending accounts and disability), paid time off, parental and caregiver leave, life & accident insurance, and other voluntary and well-being benefits. Northern Trust also provides a discretionary bonus program that may include an equity component.
