Job Description

Position           : Senior Product Manager – Tax & Accounting Systems

Location          : Downtown Phoenix, AZ Onsite
Duration         : Long term contract

Details from the client:

The client is seeking a proven leader who can effectively manage teams, balance multiple stakeholders, and confidently drive outcomes with minimal oversight. A Certified Scrum Product Owner (CSPO) or similar certification would be viewed very favorably, as it reflects the structured approach and professional discipline they are looking for.

This person needs to be both strategic and hands-on, a trusted, self-directed professional who “gets it” and can represent the department well. The environment requires someone who can take initiative and lead without waiting for instruction, while also demonstrating diplomacy and tact within a public-sector structure.

Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced Senior Product Manager to lead the strategy, development, and continuous improvement of a large-scale Tax and Accounting system. This role is instrumental in ensuring the platform meets the needs of internal users, external stakeholders, and regulatory bodies while promoting efficiency, accuracy, and transparency in financial operations.

Key Responsibilities

Product Strategy & Roadmap

  • Define and maintain a clear product vision and multi-year roadmap aligned with organizational goals and compliance requirements.
  • Drive innovation and modernization across tax and accounting functions.

Stakeholder Collaboration

  • Partner with finance, treasury, IT, and external vendors to gather and prioritize requirements.
  • Facilitate collaboration across departments to deliver scalable and user-centric solutions.

Requirements Gathering & Analysis

  • Translate business needs into technical specifications for tax billing, payments, reporting, and integration with related systems.
  • Evaluate opportunities to streamline processes and improve user experience.

Project Management & Delivery

  • Oversee the full product lifecycle, from discovery through deployment and support.
  • Ensure on-time delivery within budget, applying agile principles and structured governance.

Regulatory Compliance

  • Maintain adherence to local, state, and federal tax and accounting standards.
  • Support audits and ensure the integrity of financial data and reporting.

User Training & Support

  • Partner with training teams to develop user materials and coordinate rollout sessions.
  • Act as a central point of contact for user feedback and continuous improvement.

Data Integrity & Security

  • Collaborate with IT and security teams to safeguard sensitive taxpayer and financial data.
  • Ensure system stability, scalability, and uptime reliability.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Information Technology, Accounting, Public Administration, or a related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience as a Product Manager or Business Analyst, preferably within financial, tax, or government technology environments.
  • Strong understanding of public-sector accounting and regulatory frameworks.
  • Experience managing software development lifecycles (Agile/Scrum preferred).
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Proven ability to translate complex requirements into actionable product solutions.
  • Familiarity with enterprise finance systems (e.g., Tyler Technologies, Oracle, SAP) preferred.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree or professional certifications such as PMP, CBAP, or Certified Scrum Product Owner (CSPO).
  • Experience leading cross-functional teams in government or public-sector settings.
  • Knowledge of data privacy laws and cybersecurity best practices.

Ideal Candidate

The successful candidate is a confident, self-directed leader with the ability to manage multiple priorities and stakeholders. They are skilled at balancing initiative with diplomacy, navigating structured environments while driving meaningful progress. A strong technical acumen, paired with business insight and communication finesse, will set the right person apart.
