Job description

Job Title: Distribution EngineerJob Description

The Distribution Engineer supports the planning, design, and implementation of electric power distribution projects by collecting detailed field data, performing distribution design activities, and collaborating closely with project teams. This role offers an excellent opportunity for an entry-level engineering graduate to gain hands-on experience in the power and utility sector, working in a hybrid environment that combines field work with remote design tasks. The position provides exposure to industry-standard design tools and processes, as well as opportunities to contribute to projects for a major investor-owned utility.

Responsibilities
  • Collect detailed field data needed for distribution design, including pole heights, voltages, locations, and related infrastructure information.
  • Perform design activities for distribution projects based on collected field data and engineering standards.
  • Attend client meetings to discuss project requirements, design progress, and technical considerations.
  • Conduct field visits and participate in on-site projects to gain knowledge of the power grid and distribution systems.
  • Assist senior team members (T2s and above) with various engineering and design tasks to support project completion.
  • Utilize software tools such as SPANS, CREWS, and DDS to support distribution design and project documentation.
  • Learn and apply PoleForeman and other relevant engineering software to perform pole loading and related analyses.
  • Travel to project sites as required to gather data, support field activities, and coordinate with project stakeholders, with mileage reimbursement provided.
  • Collaborate with remote and field-based team members using Microsoft Teams and other collaboration tools to ensure timely and accurate project delivery.
Essential Skills
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, preferably in Civil, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Fundamental understanding of engineering design principles, particularly related to power distribution or infrastructure projects.
  • Ability to collect and interpret field data, including physical measurements and electrical parameters.
  • Willingness to travel to project sites and maintain reliable transportation for field work.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with senior engineers and project teams to complete assigned tasks.
  • Comfort using engineering and design software tools after training, including SPANS, CREWS, DDS, and PoleForeman.
  • Strong communication skills to participate effectively in client meetings and team discussions.
  • Capability to work in a hybrid setup, balancing field activities with remote design work.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Civil, Electrical, or Mechanical) or a closely related discipline.
  • Coursework or practical experience in distribution design is a plus.
  • Experience with mechanical engineering concepts and applications is beneficial.
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD or similar CAD software for drafting and design is an advantage.
  • Experience with mechanical drafting, CAD, and bill of materials (BOM) creation is helpful.
  • Exposure to electrical engineering principles and power systems is a plus.
  • Interest in building a long-term career in the power and utility sector, which is continuously growing and evolving.
  • Motivation to gain experience that can support future opportunities with leading engineering and design firms in the power and utility space.
Work Environment

This position operates in a hybrid work environment that combines field and remote work. Field activities take place within the territory of the end client, where the engineer collects data and supports on-site distribution projects. Design and documentation work is performed from home, using engineering software and collaboration tools. The role involves regular interaction with T2-level engineers and more senior team members to complete projects, with Microsoft Teams used heavily for communication and coordination. Travel to project sites is required, with mileage reimbursement provided. The work focuses on supporting projects for a major investor-owned utility, offering exposure to professional engineering practices and modern power distribution technologies.
