Job Summary and Responsibilities

As our Certified OB Surgical Tech, you will assist in the smooth daily operations of the Labor & Delivery unit, performing vital support for patient care and surgical procedures.
Every day you will assist with vaginal deliveries under RN and provider direction, function as a Scrub Tech for surgical procedures, maintain supplies and equipment, assist with Point of Care Testing and High Level Disinfection equipment, and perform clerical/business support tasks.
To be successful in this role, you will possess your Certified Surgical Technologist credential, strong clinical skills in OB/GYN surgery and delivery assistance, meticulous attention to detail in sterile technique and equipment management, and a commitment to our organizational mission and core values.

  • Functions as a Scrub Tech for surgical procedures, demonstrating appropriate skill to scrub a variety of cases.
  • Sets up sterile tables with instruments, supplies, equipment, and medications/solutions needed for procedures.
  • Performs appropriate counts with the circulator prior to the operation, before incision is closed, and as needed.
  • Maintains the highest standard of sterile technique during procedures by checking package integrity, indicators, and opening procedures.
  • Prepares and sterilizes supplies and equipment used in procedures, and disposes of sharps/contaminated materials appropriately.
  • Holds retractors or instruments, sponges or suctions operative sites, applies electrocautery to clamps on bleeders, cuts suture material, connects drains to suction apparatus, and applies dressings to wounds.

The schedule is 0600-1830 varied days, weekends and call is required.

  • High School Diploma/G.E.D.
  • Completion of a Surgical Tech program
  • Basic Life Support; Refer to CS Addendum and UT License and Certification Grid.
  • Current state of employment Surgical Technologist Registration
  • Certification in Surgical Technology from the National Board Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) or Certification as a Tech in
  • Surgery from the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT)

Preferred

  • One (1) year patient care experience
