JOB SUMMARY
The OB Surgical Technologist is an integral member of the Obstetrics team and provides technical, surgical, and patient-care support. They function within the operating/procedure rooms, postpartum, labor, and nursery areas.
The OB Surgical Technologist functions as a member of the surgical team during scheduled, urgent, and emergent obstetrical procedures, including cesarean deliveries and other operative procedures performed within the department. The Surgical Technologist prepares the surgical environment, maintains the sterile field, anticipates the needs of the surgeon and surgical team, handles instruments and supplies, and assists with room turnover and emergency preparedness.
The OB Surgical Technologist works collaboratively with registered nurses, obstetricians, OB hospitalists, anesthesia providers, neonatal personnel, and other members of the interdisciplinary healthcare team to provide safe, efficient, and patient-centered care.
Student Opportunity:
While functioning in a student capacity, the employee may participate in direct, hands-on surgical activities within the Obstetrics Department only under the direct supervision of a qualified/certified Surgical Technologist.
The student may not function independently as the primary or sole Surgical Technologist until all required educational requirements, department competencies, and applicable certification/employment requirements have been successfully completed
This position requires providing services to one or more age populations, including neonate through geriatric, in a manner that demonstrates an understanding of the functional/developmental age of the individual served.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Training/Experience:
REQUIRED:
  • Graduate of Surgical Technician program or two (2) years experience in a scrub tech role.
  • Good communication skills

Student Opportunity:
  • Have entered final semester of an accredited Surgical Technology program

PREFERRED:
  • Certified within 90 days of graduation of a Surgical Technician program.

License/Certifications/Special Requirements:
  • BLS

Pay Status:
  • Non-Exempt Hourly
