Senior Mentors often serve as role models, offering feedback and sharing insights gained through years of experience. Their role can include one-on-one coaching, leading group discussions, or facilitating professional development programs. The overall goal is to foster growth and success in those they mentor.

How does a senior mentor typically collaborate with other team members to support mentee development?

Senior Mentors often work closely with other mentors, team leads, and program coordinators to design and monitor mentee development plans. They regularly participate in meetings to discuss mentee progress, exchange feedback, and align on best practices. Collaboration may also involve joint workshops, peer review sessions, and facilitating group learning activities to ensure a cohesive and supportive learning environment. This teamwork helps provide mentees with well-rounded guidance and fosters a culture of continuous improvement within the organization.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a senior mentor, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Senior Mentor, you need extensive experience in your field, strong leadership abilities, and a proven track record of coaching or guiding others. Familiarity with mentorship platforms, performance tracking tools, or training program management systems is often beneficial. Exceptional communication, empathy, and active listening skills help build trust and foster growth in mentees. These skills and qualities are important because they enable the mentor to effectively support, motivate, and develop the next generation of professionals.

Job description

Position Summary

The Sr. Staff Construction Project Manager is an experienced project delivery leader who manages a complex portfolio of EV charging infrastructure projects while serving as a subject matter expert and senior technical resource for the broader project management team. This role handles the most challenging projects in the portfolio — those involving novel site configurations, complex utility interconnections, multi-party land arrangements, or elevated public funding compliance requirements — and provides strategic guidance on construction execution, contractor management, and risk mitigation across the function. The Sr. Staff Construction Project Manager shapes team practices, mentors mid-level project managers, and partners with leadership to drive continuous improvement in EVgo’s construction delivery capabilities.

Responsibilities

Project Execution & Delivery

  • Lead delivery of the most complex and high-visibility EV charging construction projects in the portfolio, managing scope, schedule, budget, quality, and safety from NTP through commissioning with full accountability.
  • Develop advanced project execution strategies for challenging site conditions, complex utility interconnections, or multi-stakeholder land arrangements; serve as the escalation point for unresolved project execution issues.
  • Drive proactive cost and schedule management across assigned projects; identify systemic risks and lead cross-functional corrective actions before issues escalate to leadership.
  • Conduct regular site visits and quality audits; set the standard for construction quality expectations and documentation rigor across the team.
  • Ensure full compliance with public funding documentation requirements for NEVI, DOE, and state grant-funded projects; serve as a resource for the team on funding compliance best practices.

Stakeholder & Contractor Management

  • Lead high-stakes contractor negotiations, dispute resolution, and performance management on complex projects; set the standard for contractor accountability across the team.
  • Build and maintain senior-level relationships with utilities, AHJs, property owners, and key vendors; leverage relationships to resolve systemic interconnection or permitting obstacles.
  • Serve as a cross-functional liaison with leadership, FP&A, Legal, and external agencies on complex project issues; represent EVgo authoritatively in high-stakes external engagements.
  • Communicate complex project status, risk, and financial performance clearly to senior leadership and provide recommendations for strategic decisions.

Risk, Safety & Compliance

  • Lead risk identification and mitigation planning on the most complex projects; develop repeatable risk management frameworks that can be applied across the broader portfolio.
  • Champion safety standards and regulatory compliance across all active projects; identify systemic compliance gaps and drive corrective action at the team level.
  • Serve as the internal authority on construction code compliance, electrical standards, and AHJ requirements; provide guidance to junior project managers on complex compliance situations.

Team Development & Knowledge Sharing

  • Serve as a senior mentor and technical resource for mid-level project managers and associates; provide coaching on complex project situations and technical problem-solving.
  • Lead development and refinement of EVgo’s construction project management standards, templates, and playbooks; drive adoption of best practices across the team.
  • Contribute to onboarding, and capability development planning for the project management team.
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned to support team and organizational objectives.

Qualifications

  • Typically requires a minimum of 12 years of related experience with a Bachelor\'s degree; or 8 years and a Master\'s degree; or a PhD with 5 years experience; or equivalent experience.

Desired Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil or Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience with EV charging, distributed energy, or electrical infrastructure construction.
  • Combination of education and extensive hands-on construction project management experience in lieu of a formal degree.
  • 7+ years of progressive experience in construction project management, including demonstrated leadership of complex, high-value, multi-site projects.
  • Deep expertise in EPC contracting, change order management, contractor performance management, and multi-party project coordination.
  • Advanced knowledge of electrical codes (NEC, NFPA), AHJ permitting, utility interconnection processes, and public funding compliance requirements.
  • Expert-level proficiency in construction project management tools (Procore, Smartsheet, Primavera, MS Project); experience with Salesforce and Sitetracker strongly preferred.
  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional alignment and resolve complex stakeholder conflicts independently; strong executive communication skills.
  • Track record of delivering complex infrastructure projects on schedule and within budget in high-pressure, fast-paced environments.
  • PMP certification or equivalent.
  • Ability to travel regularly to project sites nationally; estimated 30–50% travel.

Benefits and Perks

  • Health & Wellness: Medical, dental, and vision coverage, plus mental wellbeing support and wellness programs
  • Financial Benefits: 401(k), Health Savings Account (HSA) and Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA) for medical and dependent care, life and disability insurance
  • Work-Life Support: Uncapped paid time off, enhanced parental leave, and Employee Assistance Program (EAP)
  • Care Navigation & Support: Access to Health Advocate services for help with claims, provider searches, and care decisions
  • Flexible Care Options: Telehealth services for convenient, low-cost access to care
  • Growth & Development: Mentorship programs and opportunities for career growth and internal mobility
  • Additional Perks: Monthly Tech Stipend, one-time home office setup reimbursement, Volunteer time off, commuter benefits, and employee focused programs

In addition to a competitive base salary, we offer discretionary target cash bonuses, restricted stock units (subject to Board Approval), and a comprehensive benefits package including health, life, and disability insurance, unbounded paid time off including parental leave, and a 401(k).
