Job description

Senior Material Handler

Turion is developing the critical infrastructure of the space economy. We're doing this by building vertically integrated hardware and software: DROID, our line of space vehicles, and Starfire, our software suite covering simulation, modeling, planning, and operations. We're a group of people who fell in love with the future sci-fi promised us, and we're building it into reality. We build hard things. We build them well. And we're just getting started.

We are currently seeking a Senior Material Handler. The Senior Material Handler is a critical hands-on role within our Supply Chain department. You will own day-to-day materials operations across shipping/receiving, stockroom, and inventory management, ensuring parts and components are accurately received, stored, kitted, and shipped to support satellite production, while also mentoring junior team members and driving process improvements across the materials function. You will maintain operational efficiency and accuracy across the full materials workflow. This role reports directly to the Manager, Inventory Control and works in close partnership with Production, Engineering, and Program Management.

Key Responsibilities

Material Handling & Inventory Control

  • Receive, inspect, and verify incoming materials against purchase orders, specifications, and quality requirements; document and resolve discrepancies.
  • Safely transport materials between warehouse, cleanroom, and production areas using equipment such as forklifts, pallet jacks, and walker stackers.
  • Execute inventory transactions (receipts, transfers, adjustments, returns) in ERP systems; monitor inventory levels and identify shortages, excess, or discrepancies.
  • Identify and correctly handle electronic components, connectors, and flight hardware alongside mechanical/structural materials, in compliance with Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) and Moisture Sensitive Device (MSD) procedures.

Shipping & Receiving

  • Prepare outbound shipments (picking, packing, labeling, documentation) and generate shipping documentation (packing lists, bills of lading, carrier labels, export documentation where applicable); coordinate with carriers to schedule pickups.
  • Coordinate inbound deliveries and validate quantities, part numbers, and documentation against purchase orders and shipping documents.
  • Investigate and resolve shipping errors, receiving variances, and discrepancies; escalate systemic or recurring issues with supporting data.

Kitting & Production Support

  • Coordinate kitting and staging activities to support production schedules; validate completeness and accuracy of materials prior to release.
  • Serve as a point of contact for production teams regarding material availability and status.

Inventory Audits & Compliance

  • Lead or support cycle counts and physical inventory activities; ensure transactions are accurate, complete, and audit-ready.
  • Serve as the designated point of contact for internal and external stockroom audits.
  • Generate and report cycle count and inventory accuracy metrics against KPI targets.

Team Support & Process Improvement

  • Provide day-to-day guidance and training to less experienced team members; support prioritization of workloads across shipping, receiving, and production support tasks.
  • Identify and support implementation of process improvements to material flow, shipping accuracy, and receiving efficiency; collaborate with logistics, planning, manufacturing, and quality teams.

Safety & Work Environment

  • Follow all safety procedures and intervene or escalate unsafe conditions; maintain clean, organized workspaces aligned to warehouse and cleanroom standards.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in material handling, inventory control, and shipping/receiving in a manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to identify electronic components and handle materials per ESD/MSD procedures.
  • Proficiency with ERP/MRP systems, Microsoft Office, and Atlassian tools.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational and communication skills with the ability to multitask
  • Must be able to support off hours and weekends as required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in aerospace or satellite manufacturing.
  • Forklift and/or Material Handling Equipment (MHE) certification.
  • Working knowledge of IPC-610.
  • Prior experience serving as a point of contact for inventory or stockroom audits.
  • Prior experience with international freight (air, ocean, ground) and customs brokers.
  • Proficiency with HTS (Harmonized Tariff Schedule) codes, ECCN (Export Control Classification Number) determination, and related documentation for imports/exports.
  • Hands-on international shipping experience, preparing and documenting exports, coordinating with freight forwarders, and managing global shipments.
