Job description

Sr. Lead Machine Operator

Our client, a major fishing and seafood processing company, is seeking an experienced Senior/Lead Machine Operator to oversee the operation of our bagging equipment (2 machines) within our Bridgeton, NJ seafood processing facility. This role combines hands-on machine operation with lead responsibilities, ensuring consistent product quality, packaging accuracy, and line efficiency across shifts.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate, monitor, and troubleshoot two bagging machines to ensure consistent seal integrity, fill weights, and packaging quality
  • Perform routine machine changeovers, calibrations, and minor maintenance/adjustments between product runs and SKUs
  • Lead and train junior operators on proper machine operation, safety protocols, and quality standards
  • Identify and resolve mechanical issues quickly to minimize downtime; escalate to maintenance team when needed
  • Maintain accurate production logs, including run counts, downtime causes, and yield/output data
  • Ensure compliance with food safety standards (HACCP, GMPs) and maintain a clean, organized work area
  • Coordinate with production supervisors on daily run schedules and priorities
  • Support continuous improvement efforts to reduce waste and improve line efficiency

Required Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of experience operating packaging/bagging machinery, preferably in food or seafood processing.
  • Mechanical aptitude with ability to perform basic troubleshooting and adjustments
  • Ability to read and interpret production specs and packaging requirements
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality and safety
  • Reliable, team-oriented, and able to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Ability to stand for extended periods, lift up to 50 lbs., and work in a cold/wet processing environment

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience in a lead or trainer capacity preferred
  • Familiarity with food safety practices (HACCP, GMP) is a plus
