What is a senior living advisor?

A senior living advisor helps families and elderly individuals make the best possible decisions when it comes to entering an elder care facility. In this role, you offer your assistance to the client seeking a senior living home, informing them about their options so they can compare facilities. You should be an expert on the facilities in the area you serve. As a senior living advisor, you visit facilities regularly to ensure they meet family expectations and to act as a companion to the seniors you have helped to place there. Your duties and responsibilities revolve around saving the family time, having a high knowledge of the facilities in a given area, and bringing calm to sometimes highly emotional decisions.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a senior living advisor, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Senior Living Advisor, you need a solid understanding of senior care options, strong sales acumen, and relevant experience in healthcare or customer service. Familiarity with customer relationship management (CRM) software and knowledge of local senior living facilities are typically required. Outstanding interpersonal skills, active listening, and empathy help build trust with seniors and their families during sensitive transitions. These abilities are crucial for guiding clients to appropriate care solutions while achieving organizational goals and maintaining high satisfaction.

What are some common challenges senior living advisors face when helping families choose the right community?

Senior Living Advisors often encounter the challenge of balancing the unique needs and preferences of seniors with available community options, all while supporting families through emotional and sometimes urgent decisions. Navigating financial constraints, coordinating tours, and addressing concerns about care levels or amenities can add complexity to the process. Building trust and maintaining clear communication are essential, as advisors must ensure families feel informed and confident in their choices. Staying up to date on community offerings and regulatory changes also requires ongoing effort.

How do senior living advisors get paid?

Senior living advisors typically earn commissions or referral fees from senior living communities for each client they successfully refer. Some may also receive a flat fee or hourly rate for their services, depending on the arrangement and whether they work independently or for an agency. Compensation structures can vary based on the advisor's employment setup and agreements with facilities.

As a Communications Coordinator, your role goes beyond sharing information—you’ll help shape how employees, residents, leaders, and communities connect with BHI Senior Living. From developing communication plans and creating engaging content to managing communication channels and advising leaders on messaging and timing, you’ll play an important role in strengthening the BHI brand. Your creativity, strategic thinking, and collaboration across the organization will help ensure communications are clear, consistent, and meaningful.

As a BHI Senior Living Community, the staff are united in mission, we lead with compassion and provide opportunities to grow and thrive professionally.

Why You’ll Love Working Here:

  • Robust benefits including 401k match (up to 5%), medical, dental and vision insurance
  • Employer-paid life insurance
  • PTO (paid time off) earned from day one of employment
  • Paid holidays
  • Access to Employee Assistance Program (EAP)
  • Student loan repayment and tuition assistance

In This Role You Will:

  • Manage enterprise-wide corporate and internal communication processes, calendars, and workflows to ensure timely, consistent, and effective communication across BHI communities.

  • Develop and execute communication plans for organizational initiatives, projects, campaigns, and change-management efforts.

  • Create executive and leadership communications, including presentations, talking points, announcements, and strategic messaging.

  • Advise leaders and communities on communication strategies, messaging, audiences, channels, and timing.

  • Develop engaging content, including newsletters, articles, website copy, employee spotlights, resident stories, testimonials, and community features.

  • Identify and develop compelling stories through interviews with residents, employees, leaders, and community partners.

  • Plan and coordinate video, photography, and multimedia communications, including scripting, production, scheduling, logistics, and distribution.

  • Lead communications for resident experience initiatives, engagement programs, surveys, pilot projects, and related reporting.

  • Manage communication platforms and resources, including SharePoint, ICON, HubSpot, SurveyMonkey, email, content libraries, and brand assets.

  • Monitor communication engagement and effectiveness, identify trends, and recommend improvements based on data, feedback, and organizational objectives.

Who You Are

    •  Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Business, or related field required.
    •  2-4 years of progressive experience in communications, marketing, public relations, journalism, or project coordination.
    • Ability to translate complex information into clear, concise, and engaging communications for diverse audiences.

    Preferred:

    •  Demonstrated ability to independently manage communications projects and processes from concept through execution.
    •  Demonstrated ability to exercise independent judgment in developing communications strategies, messaging, content, and communication approaches.
    •  Ability to assess communication needs, develop recommendations, and make decisions within established organizational objectives and brand standards.
    •  Experience advising or partnering with leaders and stakeholders on communication strategies and initiatives.
    •  Strong project management skills with the ability to independently prioritize competing projects, deadlines, and organizational needs.
