Job description

The Senior Library Assistant will assist in all basic operations of Library Access Services, Media Services, and Interlibrary Loan and may include additional responsibilities working with various modules of an integrated library system.

POSITION SUMMARY

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Provides assistance for Service Desk and Media Services; duties including check-out/check-in of library materials/equipment and retrieving and shelving the library materials
  • Responsible for all Interlibrary Loan functions; handling incoming and lending requests, including processing and tracking.
  • Explains library policies, procedures, and regulations to patrons
  • Advises and assists faculty and students in the use of computer and multimedia equipment for academic use
  • Assists patrons in using online catalog and locating reserve materials
  • Assists with collection maintenance: shelving, shelf reading, inventory
  • Plans and sets up exhibits
  • Monitors public areas for appearance and compliance with Library policies
  • Performs other duties as assigned


SPECIAL SKILLS AND QUALIICATIONS 

Education: Associate’s Degree or equivalent required; bachelor’s degree preferred.

Experience: Two (2) years of related library experience. Experience with an integrated library management system, OCLC WMS preferred.

Other: Requires standing, bending, stooping down and pushing; repetitive use of upper extremities including hand coordination activities; clear speech, visual and hearing acuity; must be able to lift 30lbs.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Demonstrates understanding of the community college mission and practices an open door policy. 

  • Working knowledge of activities, policies, and procedures for Interlibrary Loan Services
  • Experience working with computers and media equipment: email, word, spreadsheet applications, internet searching, scanners, troubleshooting
  • Self-motivated , work accurately with attention to detail and follow through
  • Ability to work well within a team and also independently using relevant knowledge to determine best course of action
  • Working knowledge of activities, policies, and procedures for Interlibrary Loan Services.
  • Must have demonstrated ability to employ a balanced and positive approach to all work activities and work collaboratively across various constituencies of the College and with vendors and external constituencies.

SALARY AND BENEFITS 

  • Annual Salary is $42,750-$47,500
  • NJ Educator's Health Plan with Free Dental and Vision. NJ State Pension Plan. 
  • 13 vacation days, 15 sick days, 4 personal days, 2 floating holidays, 3 Partial Sick Days, all designated holidays and 5 non-designated holidays a year.
