LIBRARY Administrative Assistant - Saxe School
The Saxe School Library is a vibrant hub for literacy, inquiry, and digital learning. The Library Assistant plays a key role in creating a welcoming and student-centered environment by supporting instructional activities, library operations, and resource management. This role is essential in helping students and staff access the tools and resources they need to thrive.
Hours: 7 hours per day, 8:30 AM-4:00 PM
Primary Responsibilities
Instructional Support
  • Collaborate with the Library Media Specialist and certified teachers to prepare and organize print and digital resources that support classroom instruction
  • Work with individual students and small groups under the direction of a certified teacher to support research, reading, and project-based learning
  • Assist with the implementation of library-based lessons and activities
Student Supervision & Community Engagement
  • Actively supervise and engage with students to foster a safe, respectful, and inclusive learning environment aligned with Saxe Middle School's core values
  • Model positive behaviors that encourage responsibility, independence, and a love of reading
  • Communicate effectively and respectfully with students, staff, parent library volunteers, and families
Library Operations & Clerical Responsibilities
  • Maintain a tidy, organized, and welcoming library environment conducive to reading and learning
  • Support the development and maintenance of a diverse collection of print and digital materials aligned with curriculum and student interests
  • Assist in cataloging, processing, and circulating materials using the school's library management system
  • Manage and track materials, handle basic shelving and inventory tasks, and assist with displays and promotions
Technology & Resource Management
  • Curate and update relevant digital content to support curriculum, student inquiry, and school-wide initiatives
  • Use digital tools (e.g., Destiny Library Manager, Google Workspace, online databases) to support organization and access to resources
  • Stay current with emerging tools and resources that enhance the school library program
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree preferred; associate's degree or equivalent experience in educational or library settings will be considered
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a student-centered approach
  • Experience working in school, library, or youth-focused environments preferred
  • Technological proficiency and willingness to learn new digital tools and platforms
  • Ability to multitask, take initiative, and maintain confidentiality of student and staff information
