Job description

Position Title: Senior Underwriter
Salary Range: $90,000-$110,000 / Year, DOE + Bonus
This is an opportunity to step into a high-impact underwriting role with an established, independently owned specialty insurance organization serving a unique national market. The Senior Underwriter will lead complex risk evaluation, manage key accounts, oversee renewals and referrals, and work directly with insureds and carrier partners while helping strengthen underwriting processes across the business. The ideal candidate is an experienced specialty insurance underwriter who combines strong technical judgment with polished communication, exceptional attention to detail and the confidence to own relationships with sophisticated commercial clients.
Responsibilities
  • Evaluate specialty insurance applications, submissions and complex risks to determine appropriate underwriting strategy and coverage
  • Manage renewals, referrals and accounts requiring carrier review or approval while maintaining accuracy and responsiveness throughout the process
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with insureds, carrier partners and key commercial accounts
  • Partner with the junior underwriting team on application preparation, account servicing and day-to-day underwriting activities
  • Coordinate certificates, endorsements, underwriting documentation and supporting information for active accounts
  • Balance underwriting responsibilities with a high level of customer service, particularly during the January through May peak renewal season
  • Contribute to process improvements, annual planning and underwriting strategy as the organization continues to grow

Requirements
  • 5+ years of specialty insurance underwriting experience, ideally involving niche, complex or hard-to-place risks
  • Strong risk analysis, underwriting judgment and attention to detail
  • Proven ability to communicate directly and professionally with insureds, commercial clients and executive-level stakeholders
  • Experience managing customer and carrier relationships with a service-driven approach
  • Ability to work independently, stay organized and manage competing priorities in a fully remote environment
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office, Excel, Microsoft Teams, and other cloud-based business tools

Benefits
  • 100% remote work environment with flexibility and strong work-life balance
  • Health insurance with approximately 70% of employee premiums covered by the company and family coverage available
  • 4 weeks of PTO plus major and floating holidays
  • SIMPLE IRA retirement plan with a 3% company match
  • Company-provided laptop and equipment

This is a rare opportunity to become a senior underwriting voice within a stable, highly specialized organization where your expertise will directly influence clients, carrier relationships and future growth. If you're ready to take ownership of complex specialty risks and build your career beyond the confines of a traditional corporate insurance environment, apply today!
