Job description

Sr Instrument EngineerPBF Energy Inc. (NYSE:PBF) is one of the largest independent refiners in North America, operating through its subsidiaries, oil refineries and related facilities. We are seeking a talented Sr. Instrument Engineer to join our team as a pivotal member that would play a key role here at PBF Energy. This role would be located in our Toledo Refinery in Oregon OH.

The Sr. Instrument Engineer will identify reliability improvement opportunities, identify and initiate refinery instrument projects and review instrument design for multi-discipline capital and expense projects. In addition, the Sr. Instrument Engineer will provide technical support for instrumentation and control system specification, installation, configuration and maintenance. This role also provides support for instrument engineering activities throughout the refinery. The Sr. Instrument Engineer develops and manages refinery instrumentation projects including scope definition, economic analysis, engineering design, field execution, project startup, and documentation.

Principle Responsibilities:

  • Provides support for instrument engineering activities throughout the refinery

  • Develops and manages refinery instrumentation projects including scope definition, economic analysis, engineering design, field execution, project startup, and documentation

  • Understands and ensures compliance with all Process Safety policies and procedures

  • Directs critical activities requiring instrument knowledge and expertise

  • Provides technical input in determining priority and scope of equipment repairs

  • Review engineering projects and improvements to ensure compliance with refinery standards and good engineering practice

  • Responsible for completion of engineering design, documentation and implementation for small refinery improvement and modification projects

  • Works together with refinery Process Control group to identify control improvement opportunities

  • Directs the efforts of third-party design engineering and construction contractors

  • Support of refinery Operations and Optimization engineers in identifying strategic instrumentation and control opportunities that have high potential to improve operating efficiency and availability or to reduce maintenance costs

  • Supports development of safety, protective or process logic system requirements and logic implementation

  • Support Instrumentation Technicians in maintaining instrumentation and control system design and maintenance history documentation

  • Identify new instrumentation technologies and evaluate for suitability and maintainability. When applicable, develop application designs and assist with technician training

Job Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or related Engineering field required.

  • 5+ years of industrial instrumentation and control systems experience preferred. Prefer at least 2 years in a refinery environment.

  • Experience and knowledge with control valve sizing and typical process measurement instrumentation and technologies (Flow, Level, Pressure, Temperature, etc.)

  • Experience with electrical schematic drawings, logic diagrams and panel schedules required.

  • Basic knowledge of industry standards: NEC, NFPA, API, etc. required.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of PLC/HMI systems required.

  • Must possess strategic and creative thinking abilities.

  • Ability to handle multiple priorities, manage short deadlines and emergency situations.

  • Must possess interactive skills necessary for teamwork building.
