The Opportunity
Our locations in St. Paul and Maple Grove, MN currently have an opportunity for a Senior Manager, IT Architecture within the Medical Device IT Product Technology organization. This role operates in a highly regulated, security-sensitive environment (SOC 2, ISO 27001) and is responsible for delivering platforms and services that enable connected products (IoT) and support customers and clinicians.
The Senior Manager works closely with business partners, R&D, and internal IT teams to design, standardize, and scale infrastructure capabilities that support secure, reliable, and compliant product ecosystems.
The Senior Manager, IT Architecture serves as the technical leader and people manager for the architecture function, responsible for defining infrastructure strategy, establishing standards, and ensuring alignment with security, compliance, and business objectives.
This role acts as a trusted advisor and decision authority across Product Technology, driving innovation while maintaining operational rigor.
What You'll Work On
Leadership & Strategy
  • Lead and develop a team of architects supporting the Product Technology environment
  • Define and communicate the architecture vision, roadmap, and standards
  • Provide technical leadership across cloud, platform, and infrastructure strategy
  • Stay current with emerging technologies and recommend adoption where appropriate

Architecture Governance
  • Own and lead the Infrastructure Architecture Review Board (ARB) processes
  • Ensure alignment with Product Security, compliance, and regulatory requirements
  • Establish and enforce architecture principles, standards, and guardrails
  • Oversee intake, evaluation, and approval of new infrastructure designs

Solution Design & Advisory
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to R&D and application development teams
  • Guide design of infrastructure for business partner applications and shared services
  • Ensure solutions are secure, scalable, resilient, and consumable by DevOps and application teams
  • Collaborate closely with BRMs and Project Managers during intake and design phases

Cloud & Platform Innovation
  • Lead the evaluation and onboarding of cloud providers and PaaS services (Azure, AWS, GCP).
  • Lead efforts to migrate and transform on-prem applications to cloud delivery.
  • Drive adoption of modern platform capabilities (CI/CD, infrastructure as code, automation)
  • Execute and oversee proof-of-concepts (PoCs) for new technologies
  • Evaluate and integrate AI/ML and generative AI capabilities within cloud platforms, ensuring alignment with security, compliance, and Product Technology standards
  • Partner with business and R&D teams to assess AI-driven solutions and define scalable, compliant infrastructure patterns to support AI workloads and data pipelines

Standards, Documentation & Enablement
  • Develop infrastructure blueprints and reference architectures
  • Document standards including:
    • Network design
    • Ingress/Egress patterns
    • Security and compliance requirements
  • Enable smooth transition of designs to DevSecOps and operations teams for production

Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Partner with SRE, DevOps, Security, and application teams
  • Work closely with business partners to align on strategic outcomes
  • Manage vendor selection processes and relationships
  • Design and architect infrastructure solutions for business partner applications and shared services
  • Ensure architectures are standardized, reusable, and scalable across the platform
  • Consult on application infrastructure aligned with business objectives
  • Manage vendor technologies and evaluate new solutions
  • Mentor and develop team members as a technical SME and leader
  • Balance innovation with risk management and compliance adherence
  • Apply Product Security and certification standards across all designs

Minimum Experience/Education Required
Minimum experience Required
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, Engineering, or related field OR equivalent experience
  • 10+ years of progressive IT experience, including architecture and engineering.
  • Strong experience leading migration of on-premises systems to cloud-based environments.
  • Deep, hands-on expertise in at least two major cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, or GCP)
  • Strong experience with:
    • CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices
    • Infrastructure design and architecture governance
  • Experience operating in a regulated environment with audits and compliance controls
  • 3-5+ years managing technical teams (architects or senior engineers)
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate across business and technical stakeholders

Preferred skills
  • Experience optimizing and managing cloud cost (FinOps mindset)
  • Experience in medical devices, healthcare, or other regulated industries
  • Strong executive communication and influencing skills
