Job description

PURPOSE OF THE JOB

Owens Corning's Global Information Services (GIS) provides a technology platform that supports the company's growing global business needs. The Sr. Infrastructure Engineer - Distributed Hosting is a key member of the Global Infrastructure & Operations (GIO) organization and is responsible for ensuring the performance, implementation, and engineering of hosting platforms and solutions. This role will focus on partnering across GIS, GIO, and with our operations partner to drive business value through execution and problem-solving.

This role focuses on engineering excellence, platform lifecycle management, and proactive improvement initiatives. The Sr. Infrastructure Engineer - Distributed Hosting will play a key role in maintaining platform integrity, supporting project delivery, and driving continuous improvement across enterprise hosting platforms. This includes Wintel server environments, VMWare platform, compute and storage hardware, use of automation and AI, and other related technologies and platforms. In addition, a comprehensive understanding of other operating systems used in hosting environments is essential to ensure versatile support and effective integration across diverse technology stacks.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Knowing Our Businesses and their Strategies

  • Develop and maintain a strong understanding of Owens Corning specific business processes and operations locally and globally
  • Build relationships within the organization, cross-functionally, and with key business stakeholders; continuously enhance connection to remain aligned with core objectives
  • Understand how IT infrastructure and services are directly aligned with the company's strategic objectives by regularly engaging with vendors and key business stakeholders focused on distributed, enterprise, and cloud technologies and solutions

Executing Strategy

Platform Health & Lifecycle Management

  • Monitor and assess the health, capacity, and performance of hosting platforms, proactively identifying opportunities for optimization and mitigating risks
  • Provide advanced technical expertise throughout the lifecycle of Wintel servers, enterprise OS servers (e.g. Linux), VMware environments, and storage infrastructure-including patching, upgrades, and refresh strategies
  • Collaborate with architecture and operations teams to design and implement enhancements that significantly improve reliability, efficiency, and supportability of hosting platforms
  • Provide technical experience and perspective to the lifecycle management of hosting environments-including Wintel, Linux, VMware, and enterprise storage-ensuring state-of-the-art reliability and future scalability
  • Help build and communicate advanced platform standards, guiding major upgrades, migrations, and remediation efforts for critical incidents
  • Participate in the design and implementation of backup solutions along with disaster recovery and business continuity strategies for strategic hosting environments

Engineering & Optimization

  • Establish and maintain engineering standards, templates, and automation for consistent platform deployment and configuration
  • Evaluate and recommend advanced tools and technologies to further optimize hybrid hosting environments, working closely with the GIO Transformation Team
  • Take ownership of complex incident resolution, performing root cause analysis and implementing robust, long-term corrective actions
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior engineers, offering support on advanced troubleshooting and industry best practices for platform management
  • Lead small-to-medium scale projects and platform upgrades, ensuring minimal business disruption and clear communication with all stakeholders
  • Integrate security controls and compliance requirements seamlessly into platform design and operations
  • Develop automation scripts or workflows to streamline and improve efficiency for repetitive tasks
  • Contribute to capacity planning and forecasting, recommending strategic infrastructure adjustments based on in-depth analysis of historical trends and future business projections
  • Identify opportunities to leverage AI in partnership with the GIO Transformation Team

Project & Initiative Support

  • Act as a technical lead and subject matter expert for infrastructure-related projects, programs, and initiatives
  • Ensure new applications and services are onboarded efficiently and that hosting platforms are fully aligned with evolving business needs
  • Participate actively in capacity planning and infrastructure design reviews, bringing a seasoned perspective to strategic discussions
  • Oversee the effectiveness of third-party vendors and suppliers in both the delivery and execution of project work along with day-to-day management of the environment

Collaboration & Influence

  • Work in close partnership with infrastructure operations, security, and application teams to ensure cohesive and reliable hybrid platform management
  • Serve as a technical guide to architecture, operations, and security leaders on the strategic direction of hybrid  hosting platforms
  • Maintain up-to-date documentation of platform configurations, standards, and engineering decisions
  • Contribute meaningfully to governance processes by reviewing proposed changes, assessing risks, and ensuring ongoing compliance with enterprise policies and standards.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field OR Equivalent experience
  • 10+ years of experience in hosting architecture, with a focus on enterprise-scale environments

EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES

  • Proven track record of providing technical consultation and collaboration
  • Understanding of Windows Server platforms, enterprise OS platforms, VMware vSphere/ESXi, and enterprise compute and storage systems
  • Familiarity with engineering and deploying backup technologies along with implementing robust disaster recovery (DR) and business continuity (BC) processes and procedures
  • Experience with infrastructure monitoring, capacity planning, and performance tuning
  • Knowledge of datacenter environment solutions required for the design, deployment, health and support of the infrastructure and application ecosystem (power, cooling, fire, connectivity, security, etc.)
  • Familiarity with automation tools and scripting for infrastructure management (e.g., PowerShell, Ansible)
  • Understanding of Artificial Intelligence and its efficient usage in infrastructure environments
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a proactive mindset
  • Effective communication and collaboration across technical and business teams
  • Ability to manage priorities and contribute to multiple initiatives in a dynamic environment
  • Experience working and managing relationships with suppliers, vendors, and partners to drive positive outcomes
  • Experience interacting at multiple levels of an organization with a specific focus on delivering results and strong communication skills
  • Experienced with IT policies and procedures, methodologies, technology standards, protocols, roadmaps, services, and operations
