Job description

What is the role?

Roku is seeking a Senior Illustrator to lead illustration across cross-channel brand campaigns and sponsorable platform experiences, with a focus on key product lines and brand moments that require a strong visual point of view. This is a senior, lead-level role for an illustrator whose portfolio is rooted in commercial and brand illustration, demonstrating design excellence, narrative thinking, and a clear sense of how to build work that feels polished, strategic, and distinctly ownable within a brand system. In this role, you will shape illustrations for cross-channel campaigns, sponsorable platform experiences, and branded collections on the Roku platform. You will translate briefs into visual narratives, create and guide campaign-ready assets, and build visual systems that can flex across placements, partners, and downstream creative needs while maintaining a high creative bar. The right person has a strong sense of composition, storytelling, and brand expression and knows how to make illustrations feel engaging, design-forward, and effective in a commercial context. This person is as comfortable developing concepts independently as they are guiding other illustrators toward a strong creative outcome.

For California Only - The estimated annual salary for this position is between $112,500 - $130,100 annually.

Compensation packages are based on factors unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skill set, certifications, and specific geographical location.

This role is eligible for health insurance, equity awards, life insurance, disability benefits, parental leave, wellness benefits, and paid time off.

  • Develop visual concepts and narrative systems that bring Roku's brand and IP to life across the platform
  • Own illustration for assigned product lines or initiatives, from early concept through final execution
  • Art direct and guide other illustrators and creative partners to produce high-quality, on-brand work
  • Create illustration that balances storytelling, clarity, and commercial impact
  • Partner with creative, marketing, sales, and business stakeholders to develop work that serves both brand and business goals
  • Present creative work clearly, explain rationale, and represent the Creative team in cross-functional conversations
  • Help define scalable illustration approaches, toolkits, and repeatable systems for ongoing initiatives
  • Use AI tools thoughtfully to accelerate exploration, iteration, and production while maintaining a strong creative point of view
  • Manage multiple projects in a fast-moving environment while upholding a high standard of craft and consistency
  • Champion the brand voice and style
What experience would help someone be successful in this role at Roku?
  • 7+ years of experience in illustration, brand design, or campaign-focused visual storytelling
  • A portfolio that clearly demonstrates illustration with strong narrative thinking and aesthetic range
  • Experience art directing and leading illustration for campaigns, product marketing, brand systems, or other high-visibility commercial work
  • Strong strategic instincts and experience guiding the work of other illustrators or designers
  • Excellent illustration fundamentals, including composition, color, hierarchy, form, and visual storytelling
  • Fluency in Adobe Creative Suite, especially Illustrator and Photoshop, as well as Figma
  • Familiarity with illustration that lives within product or UI environments
  • Experience building assets, toolkits, and systems that can scale across multiple touchpoints
  • Confidence making creative decisions independently and leading work under broad strategic direction
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to present work and collaborate with both creative and non-creative stakeholders
  • Comfort working within established brand guidelines while still bringing fresh ideas and a distinct point of view
  • Experience using AI tools as part of a professional creative workflow
  • Comfort working in a highly dynamic, collaborative environment
