With 204-beds, it is the third largest of the four Duke Health hospitals and offers a comprehensive array of services, including cancer, cardiovascular, neuroscience, advanced gastrointestinal, and wound healing care.


Job Summary

The Hospital Shuttle Driver is responsible for safely transporting patients, visitors, and staff across the hospital campus and between designated buildings. This role requires excellent customer service skills, a strong commitment to safety, and the ability to assist passengers with diverse needs in a courteous and professional manner. This is a Part-Time position only for the Duke Raleigh Hospital Campus.


Work Performed
  • Safely operate shuttle vehicles on established routes throughout the hospital campus
  • Transport patients, visitors, and staff around campus in a timely and efficient manner
  • Provide assistance as needed to passengers entering and exiting the vehicle, including those with mobility challenges or medical equipment
  • Ensure passenger safety by following all traffic laws, safety procedures, and hospital protocols
  • Perform routine vehicle inspections and report any maintenance or safety concerns
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the shuttle vehicle
  • Communicate respectfully and effectively with passengers, providing directions and general campus information
  • Maintain accurate transport logs and complete required documentation
  • Support a welcoming and patient-centered environment
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Valid NC Driver's License and driving record in accordance with Duke University Health System Driving History requirements in the Vehicle Safety Policy
  • Ability to pass background checks and any required health screenings
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work in a healthcare environment with sensitivity and professionalism
  • Basic knowledge of defensive driving practices
  • Requires good verbal communication skills to interact with patients, visitors and clinical staff.
