Whitman, Requardt & Associates, LLP is seeking a highly motivated Senior Highway Engineer to join our growing team in Tampa, Florida. This is a key role supporting the expansion of our Florida operations and delivering a robust and diverse portfolio of transportation projects. We are looking for a seasoned professional who brings strong technical expertise, leadership, and a passion for building lasting client relationships.

Responsibilities:

  • Serve as Engineer of Record on highway and roadway design projects.
  • Lead and perform senior-level technical design tasks, ensuring quality and compliance with applicable standards.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to junior engineering staff, fostering professional growth and development.
  • Assist with project management duties including scheduling, budgeting, and client coordination.
  • Support proposal development, including technical writing and scope definition.
  • Play an active role in business development, helping to identify and pursue new project opportunities in the Jacksonville and broader Florida market.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across WRA’s offices to deliver successful project outcomes.

Requirements:

  • A minimum of 16 years of experience in highway design  
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited program
  • P.E., registered in the state of Florida or ability to obtain within 6 months
  • Strong knowledge of FDOT standards, specifications, policies, and procedures
  • Experience designing roadway projects and preparing contract documents in accordance with FDOT policies and procedures; experience with other state and local agencies in the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic a plus
  • Experience with design software tools such as MicroStation, Geopak, InRoads, OpenRoads and AutoCAD 
  • 3D design experience a plus
  • Experience with Alternative Delivery projects (Design-Build, P3, etc.) a plus
  • Ability to effectively communicate orally/written at all levels of the organization
  • Ability to travel to project sites, company offices and client meetings
  • Positive attitude and willingness to work cooperatively with others
  • Willingness to continue to learn and grow technically and professionally within the company
  • Openness to utilizing and developing new technologies and approaches for performing work

The expected compensation range for this position is $160,000.00 - $240,000.00. This range represents a good faith estimate for this position.
