Job description

Job Summary:
Starkey Hearing is a world leader in the manufacturing and distribution of advanced hearing technologies. They are seeking a Senior Firmware Technician to verify the functionality of hearing aid firmware and assist in various activities throughout the Firmware department to accelerate development.
Responsibilities:
• Understand firmware requirements, test cases and verify the functionality of firmware.
• Understand the firmware requirements, firmware module at a high level and its interface through participation in meetings, studying associated documents and reference materials, etc.
• Understand the test cases and how they apply to the firmware system requirements
• Verify the functionality of the firmware using software tools such as Kiwi, python scripts, development boards, measurement tools, etc.
• Test the firmware through execution of test procedures and ad hoc / exploratory testing.
• Document the test cases and review them with FW Verification engineers.
• Log test results in test management tool and test failures in defect tracking tool.
• Work with FW team and other teams outside FW to recreate issues, clearly communicate issues and help support debug and resolution of the issues.
• Manage lab equipment and assist team members with creation of test fixtures, configuration of tools and devices.
• Create/support creation of test fixtures required for firmware development and testing.
• Assist engineers and technicians with configuration and modification of test equipment, development boards, hearing aid devices and accessories.
• Manage lab, test equipment and ensure that equipment is tracked, calibrated and in good working condition.
• Create and maintain documents on lab inventory and how to use lab equipment.
• Look for tools to help add new capabilities, be more productive and more efficient
• Follow, improve established processes and drive new processes
• Diligently follow established processes and guidelines such as test procedure template, test case reviews, test result and failure documentation to support improving firmware quality, help provide documentation for audits and help provide data to measure productivity
• Identify gaps in current processes, look for new opportunities to improve productivity and efficiency.
• Identify opportunities and drive the effort to reduce manual test time, improving the efficacy of manual tests to catch bugs and identifying better tools, equipment for testing.
• Mentor other team members and help in the technical and professional growth of the team
• Coach and mentor other team members.
• Conduct knowledge sharing sessions and documents to help other team members improve their knowledge of test equipment, tools, etc.
• Be a role model to newer or less experienced team members.
• Effectively participate in project activities
• Estimate manual testing effort to help plan projects
• Plan and accomplish tasks in a timely manner and with high quality to meet project timelines.
• Coordinate tasks with other team members and assign tasks to other team members where appropriate.
• Lead planning and coordination of small to large projects related to certain technical areas.
• Other duties/responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications:
Required:
• Technical degree in Software, Electronics or a related field with 6+ years of relevant experience.
• Experience in using measurement tools such as oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, logic analyzers, etc.
• Experience using engineering software tools.
• Experience working with embedded systems.
• Experience in using electronic hardware.
• Experience in audio and/or wireless.
• Experience using test management, defect tracking and requirements management tools.
• Skills in computer programming.
• Computer skills including Microsoft Office Products.
• Proficiency in troubleshooting and problem solving.
• Must be driven, methodical, detail-oriented and accurate.
• Ability to work effectively in a team and individually.
• Great oral and written communication skills.
Preferred:
• Experience working with embedded systems is highly desirable.
• Experience in audio and/or wireless is highly desirable.
• Experience using test management, defect tracking and requirements management tools is highly desirable.
• Skills in computer programming is desirable.
• Sound engineering or music background is a plus.
