The Systems Administrator's work directly supports the deployment of Zero Trust and AI integration, which are crucial for achieving Decision Superiority—the ability to sense, understand, and act faster than the adversary—across the volatile Central Region.

Position Overview

Venatôre is hiring a GCCS-J Systems Administrator to support CENTCOM under the CITS contract at MacDill AFB. Although this is classified as a Tier 1 support role, the inherent complexity and mission-critical nature of the Global Command and Control System – Joint (GCCS-J) environment demand an experienced administrator. This position provides daily operational support for the GCCS-J environment, including Common Operational Picture (COP) services, Agile Client, and the Linux/UNIX infrastructure. Candidates must have prior hands-on GCCS-J experience and at least 3+ years of Linux/UNIX administration experience.

Responsibilities

GCCS-J / COP Operations

  • Provide Tier 1 support for GCCS-J components, including COP servers and Agile Client.
  • Conduct daily system checks, verify data feeds (tracks), review logs, and monitor system health.
  • Troubleshoot user and system issues, escalating complex problems to higher support tiers when needed.
  • Assist with configuration activities and system updates under senior supervision.

Linux / UNIX Systems Support

  • Perform routine Linux/UNIX administration tasks necessary for GCCS-J operations.
  • Navigate directories, manage processes, review logs, and handle Command Line Interface (CLI) tasks.
  • Support system baseline maintenance and configuration management.
  • Assist with virtualization platforms such as VMware.

User & Access Support

  • Assist with user account and permission issues, including validating access problems related to security groups.
  • Support users with workstation connectivity and GCCS-J client issues.

Troubleshooting & Remote Support

  • Provide Tier 1 workstation and network troubleshooting.
  • Guide users through identifying system information during remote support
  • Create, track, and resolve issues through enterprise ticketing systems

Maintenance & O&M

  • Assist with scheduled maintenance activities and system checks
  • Support backup verification and restoration tasks
  • Maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), runbooks, checklists, and documentation
  • Support on-call or shift duties required during exercises or Continuity of Operations (COOP) events

Cybersecurity & Compliance

  • Support Information Assurance (IA) requirements, including patching, remediation tasks, Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIG) checks, and scan review
  • Follow DoD cybersecurity policies and security requirements (DoD 8570/8140 compliance)

Required Qualifications

  • Active TS/SCI security clearance
  • 3+ years of system administration experience
  • Hands-on GCCS-J experience
  • Hands-on Linux or UNIX administration experience
  • Required Certification: Security+ CE (IAT II), ensuring compliance with DoD 8570 standards
  • Experience with account/permissions management, troubleshooting, VMware, and ticketing systems
  • Strong communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Basic administration experience with databases such as Oracle or PostgreSQL
  • Experience troubleshooting middleware and application servers, including JBoss or Tomcat
  • Familiarity with configuration management tools and automation platforms like Satellite, Ansible Tower, or GitLab
  • Prior CENTCOM/C2 environment experience
  • Familiarity with DoD compliance frameworks, including STIGs, RMF, and IA processes

Additional Requirements

  • Ability to travel up to 15% OCONUS for exercises and COOP operations
  • Must have or be able to obtain a U.S. Passport
