Senior Full Stack Designer information

What is a senior full stack designer?

Senior Full Stack Designers are experienced professionals who possess both design and development skills, allowing them to oversee and contribute to all aspects of a digital product’s user experience and technical implementation. They typically work on both the front-end (user interface and experience) and back-end (server, databases, and logic) of web or app projects. Their responsibilities include designing intuitive interfaces, ensuring responsive design, writing code, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and mentoring junior designers and developers. Senior Full Stack Designers bridge the gap between design and engineering, ensuring a cohesive and functional final product.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a senior full stack designer?

To thrive as a Senior Full Stack Designer, you need advanced proficiency in user experience (UX) and user interface (UI) design, along with strong knowledge of front-end and back-end development languages such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and frameworks like React or Angular. Familiarity with design tools (e.g., Figma, Sketch, Adobe Creative Suite) and version control systems (e.g., Git), as well as an understanding of APIs and database management, are typically required. Exceptional problem-solving abilities, collaboration, and communication skills help you bridge the gap between design and development while working with cross-functional teams. These skills and qualities are essential for creating seamless, user-centered digital products that meet both aesthetic and technical requirements.

How does a senior full stack designer typically collaborate with developers and product managers on complex projects?

As a Senior Full Stack Designer, you’ll frequently work cross-functionally with developers, product managers, and other stakeholders to ensure seamless integration of design and functionality. You’ll often be involved early in the product planning stages, contributing to user flows, wireframes, and prototypes, and then collaborating closely with developers to translate designs into production-ready code. This role requires strong communication skills to advocate for user experience while balancing technical constraints and business goals. Regular feedback sessions and agile methodologies are common, allowing for rapid iteration and alignment across teams.

Job description

About Us

We are a specialized law firm focused on private markets, leveraging AI-powered software to deliver high-quality legal analysis with greater speed and efficiency than traditional methods. Our clients include top-tier endowments, foundations, and institutional investors across private equity, venture capital, real estate, and hedge funds. We have completed a seed round led by Flybridge Capital Partners.

About the Role

As our first Senior Full-Stack Engineer, you'll play a critical role in shaping the technology stack, designing scalable solutions, and owning both backend and frontend development. You will report into the CTO. We seek a problem solver who thrives in the dynamic environment of a startup and is eager to engage with cutting-edge technologies in AI and legal tech.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and maintain scalable distributed systems with robust server-side logic
  • Develop and refine GraphQL APIs, focusing on serverless architectures and seamless third-party API integrations
  • Manage and optimize relational databases (Postgres or similar)
  • Drive frontend development using Next.js and TypeScript, delivering clean, maintainable, and performant code
  • Improve application performance, scalability, and reliability through strategic use of cloud platforms (Vercel, AWS, or GCP)
  • Implement and uphold best practices in engineering processes, including CI/CD, automated testing, and code quality
  • Respond proactively to production-level alerts and participate in on-call rotations as needed

Requirements

  • 7+ years of experience as a full-stack engineer in a fast-paced startup or agile environment
  • Strong API design skills, especially with GraphQL and serverless architectures and proficient in relational database management
  • Deep expertise with Next.js, TypeScript, and modern frontend development practices
  • Proven experience deploying and managing applications on cloud platforms such as Vercel, AWS, or GCP
  • Knowledge of security best practices, particularly around data security and SOC2 compliance
  • Excellent communication skills, capable of clearly articulating technical concepts

Team

Our goal as a company is to remain as efficient as possible by using technology. We will have a hiring constraint and encourage all leaders to use AI and other technologies to create efficiencies and leverage.

Work Arrangements

Our current plan is that all professional employees will be located within commuting distance to NYC and will come into the office 3 days a week.

Benefits and Paid Time Off

We provide healthcare, dental and vision coverage. Currently, we do not specify the number of days of paid time off an employee may take (which is often referred to as unlimited paid time off). Benefits are subject to change as the company grows and evolves.

Compensation

The expected base salary range for this position is between $175,000 and $200,000 plus equity. Actual compensation will be determined based on experience and other factors as permitted by law.
